Lisa,  Do you know of any reasonable hotels in Sorrento?  I'm sure staying here is more reasonable than staying in Positano.  If we stayed in Sorrento, can we rent a car and take day trips to Positano, Amalfi, etc....and boat to Capri?

I like tripadvisor because you can read what other people say about a place. Just know that some people are very hard to please and some people have simple tastes, so you need to keep that in mind.

Staying in Sorrento may be more reasonable. Here is a list of places in Positano also  to compare:

But your idea to stay in Sorrento as your base and take day trips from there is fine. Also a boat to Capri from Sorrento is a good idea.
