Question
Hi Lisa, you sound like a real expert on Italy, I was thinking of basing myself in
Milan for 4 nights and doing day trips, from your comments I now wonder if I
should go straight to Venice, I will be coming from Nice and travelling alone,
would I feel safe in Venice alone?  Thank you Carol

Answer
Hi Carol. I absolutely love Venice! You can easily spend 4 days there exploring not only Venice but the other islands in the lagoon (Murano, Burano, Torchello and Lido). Or you could take the train to Padua, Verona, etc.

Milan is a huge city. Personally, I would not want to use it as a base. If you have never been to Venice, that would be my choice.

And it is quite safe for a city.

Best wishes,
Lisa
