Question
We need to leave Positano for Rome Int Airport.
Which is the quickest way.
Would it be the Ferry from Positano to Naples and then the train to Rome. Does the train go directly to the airport ?
Also how long would the entire trip take from Positano to Rome airport please.
Regards
Allan

Answer
Dear Allan:

You can never get the ferry schedules in advance in my experience, so you have to get that bit while you are there.

Here is how I would plan it, myself, by working backwards.

Flight time (ETD) -2 hours check in
ETD -3 hours take train from Rome central train station (Stazione Termini) to airport; it is a 20 minute trip twice/hour.
ETD - 3.5 hours arrive Rome Termini
ETD - 5.5/6 hours take train from Naples to Rome Termini (trip takes 1.5 hours, 2x hour, must book ahead, fast trains fill up, book via this service (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1395964-1205410); it is difficult to book with www.trenitalia.com.
ETD - 7 hours arrive at pier in Naples and take taxi to central train station, quick trip 10-15 min.

Another thing to check, but I, like you, would prefer the ferry. Is to get a bus/car/taxi to Sorrento, then take the local train from there to Naples, check the schedules for the Circumvesuviana www.vesuviana.it.

It is sure a lot easier to get around when you stay in Sorrento! Check out our nice vacation rentals there: www.italyperfect.com.
