Question
Hi Lisa....there are 6 of us traveling to Lucca in mid October.  We are staying in a villa outside Camiore.  I know where to rent bikes but we are hoping to find bike routes to local wineries that are low-intensity.  I cannot find a way to contact the Visitors Bureau for their response (an earlier question you answered).  Is it even possible to have the lowest number of hills and still get to wineries?  Thank you,  Debbie

Answer
Hi Debbie. Check out this bike/wine tour to get an idea of the scope:

http://www.notordinaryways.com/tuscany-tours/bike-wine-tours.htm

You can start in Lucca for a 25 km bike ride around the wine country. Doesn't sound that difficult. They don't give an itinerary, but perhaps you could ask them for a map or the itinerary. Some of the towns that have wineries are Santo Stefano, S. Gennaro, Porcari, Montecarlo, and Altopascio. Here's a map that has most of those towns, starting with Lucca:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Lucca&1s=Toscana&1y=IT&1l=43.841991&1g=10.51536&...

The above route, starting and ending in Lucca is 26 miles RT.

Check out this website. It's the official Tuscany tourism website. You can read about each town above and find more info on wine tasting and biking:

If you need more information, look through books at the library or book store on the subject of bike tours in Italy.

Best wishes,
Lisa
