Question
Dear Andrew

Please could you advise the driving times by car, between Bolzano and Venice, and Venice to Rome.

Please advise any tips for driving in Italy.

Many thanks
Alta Lotter

Answer
Dear Alta

The driving time between Venice and Bolzano is around 3 hours and between Venice and Rome about six hours is needed.

I have a few tips about car hire in Italy on my site (http://www.venice-italy-veneto.com/car-hire-in-venice-italy.html) . Generally though I would recommend using the trains if you are going to be visiting the main cities as they offer a cheap and effective way of getting from city to city and within the cities public transport is a much better option than driving, which can be chaotic. The http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html site is useful for finding train info.

A car is very useful though if you want to explore the countryside and the smaller towns and villages.

If you need anything else please feel free to ask.
