AboutLisa Expertise Can recommend day trips from Lucca, can give car directions from most places in Italy, and can help you plan an itinerary. But cannot recommend hotels and restaurants! For a train time table and info on Eurail passes, check out:

Experience I've been to Italy many times, and have traveled to Egypt, India, Nepal, Israel, Turkey, Fiji, Malaysia, and other places in Europe and the Caribbean.
Question I have booked travel for 2 to fly into Milan out of Bologna.
Travel dates Sept 29-Oct 8.
I want to visit Milan, Florence,Cinque Terra,Bologna and over to Split Croatia for a day.
What do you recommend to see to do to eat/entertainment and stay.
We don't mind spending a lot of money if it is worth it. This is a trip for a special occasion and want to do all the #1 things.
We love to eat and do as the locals do.
Thanks for all your help
Sara
Answer Hi Sara. First, you should read up on the various places you're interested in seeing. Get a couple of current guide books of Italy. You can also visit Frommers.com to get started right now. Type in a place on their website, such as "Florence" and then click on "Frommers Guide to Florence." There is lots of free information that you can pour over.
Personally, I wouldn't choose Milan unless you're wild about fashion and shopping and enjoy big industrial, cosmopolitan cities. Sure, they have the Last Supper. It's a great place to fly in and out of, though, no offense to Milan. You decide.
Frommers and tripadvisor.com recommends current hotels, pensions, and restaurants and they rarely fail to please. You can read reviews on tripadvisor. But beware. Some people are impossible to please. The guide books/website will also tell you what there is to see in each place, how to get there, when things are open, how much for admission, etc. What to see is a very personal choice, so you need to do some research.
In Florence, don't miss Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge). Also, there is a wonderful, classic view of Florence from the Piazza Michelangelo on the outskirts of the city. Here are some other highlights of Florence: www.frommers.com/destinations/florence/0051020001.html
It's hard to get a bad meal in Italy. Choose places that are full of locals and you won't go wrong! If you find a recommended place that you want to try, especially the higher end places, make a reservation.
