Italy - Naples War cemetary

Expert: Edoardo - 9/27/2009

Question
I hope you can please help !
I want to visit the Naples War Cemetary and my original plan was to go to Rome (as i love it!) and take an internal flight to Naples - however the flights are really expensive.
I was then told not to stay in Naples but to stay at Sorrento and forget about the Rome part. (and do that another time)
What would your recommendation be as i dont know how far away these places are from each other i.e. Airport - Naples - Sorrento - War Cemetary ?? And as this is a surprise for someone need to get this absolutely right.
Please help !

Answer
Hello,
before I go ahead let me just give you these info in case you have not found it yet:

The War Cemetery lies in the locality of Miano at Via Vincenzo Ianfolla, off the Corso Secondigliano, in the Commune and Province of Naples. Take the autostrada A1, the Rome to Naples road. After the last toll booth, carry on following the signs for the airport. Pass the end of the airport approach road and turn right at the next T junction, following the main road for about 4 kilometres. Cemetery address: Via Vincenzo Janfolla - 80145 Milano (NA) Campania. GPS Co-ordinates: Latitude: 40.88497, Longitude: 14.24000.

PLEASE NOTE: The cemetery is permanently open and may be visited anytime but you should be aware that Naples War Cemetery is located in an area where there have been a number of robberies from individuals.

Honestly I'd stay with the original plan and stay in Rome, then from there I'd take a train (there's one at xx.44 of every hour), it takes just 1 hour and 22 minutes, much less than the airplane if you consider check in/check , time for reaching the airport in advance, etc.
The cost is much cheaper than the flight (around 60 Euro roundtrip), so you may consider to spend less money taking the train Vs airplane and get instead a private transportation from the station (you can get settled with a local driver for 50/100 Euro-ish)to the cemetery.
Be carefull in that area and make sure you are never alone but always with other people. Also do not bring much money or golden things with you.

Have a nice vacation,
Edoardo
