Italy/food portions


Hi.  I have a question.  Are the food portions in Italy as big as those in Italian restaurants in America?  Thanks

Short answer is "Not typically".   The reason for this is that Italian meals tend to consist of several courses: an antipasto (appetizer), a primo (pasta or soup) and a secondo (meat and side dish of vegetables).   Doggy bags still rather uncommon in Italy so one tends to be served less and eat all that is on your plate.
