Question
how many uk tourists visit rome each year and has the stastics increased or decreased if so why?

Answer
Hello Joanna,
I could not locate the stastical data for numbers of UK tourists to Rome.  A report on Doxa.it from a tourism conference held in Venice stated that there has been a 5% decrease in visitors from the UK to Italy.  Reasons cited were "unfavourable trend of exchange rates and the highly uncertain economic and political outlook".  No numerical quantities were cited, however.

I am sure that numeric statistics can be found at Italy's statistical bureau (www.istat.it) or by contacting the Rome Tourist Board (www.romaturismo.com) or the Italian State Tourist Board (www.enit.it).

Best wishes,

Expertise

I can answer questions about Rome, especially in providing advice for first time travelers to the Eternal City. I`d love to provide information on getting around, ordering meals, finding a hotel, and roaming the streets of this magnificent city...the "nitty gritty" basics everyone needs to know to take the confusion out their first visit.

Experience

I was a corporate travel consultant for 3 years, and involved in various aspects of travel arranging, as a travel agent and then agency marketing manager for 7 years. I have traveled to Rome many times, and remember well the confusion of arriving jet-lagged on my first visit.
