i have given her flee baths and used a flea med. too is this normal for this kind of dog? the vet told me to give her eggs and butter, her skin is a little dry too..PLEASE HELP, we love her but the hair is ddriving us grazy and it looks like she may be suffering which drives us even more crazy.
Answer Hello Roya and thank you for your question's,
Ever since My Jack Russell Terrier was the same age he has been burdened with sever allergies. He lost alot of hair at that time on the right side of his face/ear around his mouth and around his right eye, he lost hair on the front of his neck as well and was VERY itchy he was in a horrible state when I could finaly take him to the vets, He was diginosed with allergies and was given cream for his bald horribly scratched areas, Drops for the yeast infection her had in his right ear(very comman in many dogs) and was changed to fish and potatoe dog food(hated it and is now back on orginal food due to him lossing weight... his allergys are starting to bother him again now) and was persribed Benadryl 25 ml caplets which are human allergy pills twice a day and had to wear a shirt to stop him hurting his neck anymore during scratching and a cone! You can give two of the benadryl caplets per day until your next vet trip it should stop the sracthing somewhat until you find out for sure what is bothing her, if its the allergys the pills will help alot, one 25 ml pill in the morning and one before bed is what my jack russell terrier is getting right now it helps alot with his allergys. Bathing twice a week in Nizoral shampoo for humans works wonders also but do let it soke into the coat a few mintues before washing away... i had to do this with my russell last ear it helped cure him at the time, this shampoo is expensive but not overly and can be found around dandruff shampoos for people Nizoral or something very simalar it is called and in a small white box with purple lettering I belive. Changing the diet to veggiterian or fish and potatoe would help also. If you do a google serch(www.google.ca) on allerghys in dogs or dogs with allergys you should find some useful information and possibly a few pictures of what dogs with allergies look like. You can get dog shampoo also for flaky/itchy skin if its not allergys this might help.
I hoep this helps the best thing thou would be to do some reading on allergys in dogs and if your almost sure your dog has this take her back to the vet and explain and possibly try get an allergy testing done. If you have any further questions feel free to ask I'll try help the best I can.
