Expert: Howard M. Fitzcharles III Date: 4/9/2008 Subject: My flashers are always on no other lights work
Question I have an 87 xjs 5.3L with Engine OffKey Off, The emergency flashers work as they should With Engine onoff Key on, the flashers are on all the time, with no other lights working ie:turn, brake, headlamps. I just bought this vehicle need to know why this is happening. Vehicle runs fine other than NO lights and the flashers stuck ON with key on. PLEASE HELP,.
Answer Hi Mathew,
The hazard switch and the turn signal switch are the only two items in the system that can apply current to the turn signal lights. Unplug the hazard switch to see if it is at fault. If not, you have a wiring problem meaning something is plugged in wrong, you need a wiring diagram to back trace the power to it's source. The turn signal switch is not powered with the key off.
