Question I bought a 1986 xjs v12 no tail lights please tell me all that could be wrong. What I could check.
john
Answer Hi John,
First check for power at the bulb socket and their grounds. Then if your license lights are out too, you need to look at the inline fuses for each side (3 amp). They are located behind the trunk side panels next to the rear bulb failure units. The bulb failure units are small 3 pin metal cans (one on each side) Power out to the inline fuse is a red wire. Power in to the failure unit is red w/slate tracer wire which comes directly from the light switch. The white w/slate wire runs forward to the bulb failure light on the instrument panel.
If you have license lights but no tail lights, you only need to test the red wires at the connector at the tail light assembly and check the black ground wires there.
