QUESTION: I am lost . I don't no what else to do. I checked and double checked every thing. Power to the relay from the green and they the b/p wire. Took Off the horn relay and made sure that I had the wires right, and cleaned the contacts, checked for ground , took off the horns and cleaned those contacts also. When I press the horn button I get a click. They were just working . Is there a way to check to see if the RELAY is GOOD. I was alone today . Or I would have check the p/y wire at the horns to see if it is getting power from the relay to the horn. I hope u have a suggestion!!!!
I am tying and I will not give up, PLEASE keep helping Thank u
Mike, you have a test light so just pull the horn relay with the wires attaced. Look at the letter ID of the pin connections. Now connect your test light clip to a power supply (+) and put the point of the test prob on the "W-2" terminal while all the wires are connected. The "W-2" terminal should have the Purple w/Black tracer wire on it. Now have someone push the horn button. You should see your test light light up when the horn button is pushed.
If it does proceed to the next test. If it don't light the test light then fix the horn button or wires or pick-up brush on the steering colum.
Next put the test lead clip on a good ground and use the point to test for (+) power on the "W-1" terminal on the relay with the Green wire on it (with the ign key to the "ON" position). If you have power there have someone push the horn button while you lightly put a finger on the relay. You should feel and hear it "Click". If you feel it "Click" and/or hear it "Click" proceed to the next test. If not put a new relay in and repeat the tests.
With your test light still connected to a good ground touch the "C-2" terminal on the relay with the point of the test light and it should light up. The "C-2" terminal should have a Brown w/Purple tracer wire on it and it should be powered (+). If it does proceed to the next test. If not check fuse #3 and fix the power to "C-2".
Now, with your test lead clip still grounded touch the point of the test light to the "C-1" teminal with the Purple w/Yellow tracer wire on it and have someone push the horn button. You should hear a "Click" and the test light should light up. If the test light lit up but the horns didn't blow proceed to the next test. If the test light didn't light up then replace the relay and test again. If it did light up and the horns didn't blow proceed to the next test.
Now remove the Purple w/Yellow tracer wire off of the "C-1" terminal and the Brown w/Yellow tracer wire off of the "C-2" terminal and scratch the two wires together. If the horns don't blow, then check the Purple w/yellow wire to the horns and run a long hot wire (+) to the horns directly to test the horns.
That is a complete test of the horn system. Don't skip anything for any reason.
