About Sienna
Expertise
I live on the west coast of the island, in the sugar cane valley of Westmoreland parish, just outside the beach resort town of Negril, and will be happy to assist with questions that would cover the areas of the west and southwest coasts....areas such as Negril, Whitehouse, Treasure Beach. I can help withquestions pertaining to Jamaican culture, food, places of interest, your general hotel location in regards to activities or excursions in your area, whether you're in a villa, resort, or small independent hotel. I am however, NOT a travel agent, and cannot be of help making reservations at any all-inclusive properties.

Experience
I moved here from California nine years ago, to live here with my husband, a Jamaican....his home is now my 'adopted home.' Before moving here I visited Jamaica as often as possible, staying in tourist towns and remote 'bush country'. We have a small micro-business, offering tours for people who wish to go "off property" and choose do so in a more personal atmophere, rather than on large tour buses with 30-50 others. We go to all of the customary tourist attraction spots, and also offer some destinations you will not find offered through the hotels or large tour companies. We believe that the people of Jamaica, both adults and children, have much to offer visitors and we strive to involve members of any community we pass through so that you can interact with them directly. Our goal is to have you enjoy your outing..to have fun while learning something new.

Question
QUESTION: Can you tell me what Sunset at the Palms resort is like and also will the weather be good around 4 PM as we are getting married then?
Many Thanks

ANSWER: Greetings from Jamaica!  Paula, tell me what month your wedding will be held and I can give you a better idea of what to expect weather wise.  In the same response I'll give you some background on Sunset At The Palms.

QUESTION: We are getting married on the 8th August this year.

Answer
Greetings Paula!  Thanks for sending the date of your wedding day...now I can tell you what to expect.

IF you are already committed to the 4pm time slot,  PLEASE be sure that the on-site Wedding Planner sends you some photos of the backup site that would be under cover (as opposed to a garden or beach wedding site in the open air).   Something that shows the decor from past weddings would be nice...either something already on their website or pics she could email or whatever.

I am suggesting highly that you do this...the weather cannot be guaranteed in advance, but 9 times out of 10, you are going to have afternoon rains in August...intense cloudbursts/downpours, dramatic lightning/thunder shows...I am always impressed by August rainstorms, love them actually....however, if a particular time on a particular day was planned for my wedding, and delaying it was not an option...I sure would like to know what to expect if my original plans/visions had to be changed.

You MAY be blessed with no rain for the ceremony, and that would be wonderful...but I think it's better to know your alternatives in advance just in case, rather than being caught off guard at the last minute.

I have not seen the whole property...only the lobby (which I love...very tropical in looks and feel) and the 'park' area across the street in front of the property's beach.  Please go to http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g147309-i69-Jamaica.html

You will find past trip reports on SATP, photos taken, and in the Negril forum itself, there is a search button where you can type in specific key words to pull up old threads from the message board that may fit, or you can register and post your own questions for current first hand information.

Most people who have stayed there seem to like it....

Those who didn't either did not spend enough time researching what it offered beforehand so that it was not a good fit for their likes/dislikes...or they had absolutely no clue what the tropics are like in general and no matter where they had gone on the island, they wouldn't have enjoyed it.

If you have any other questions about Negril itself or the surrounding areas, want a map of the town so you know where everything is in relation to where you'll be...anything at all really, feel free to drop us a line anytime and I will give you links, tips, ideas...whatever needed to make you feel at home here.
