Question Hello!
I am moving to Tokyo to work this summer. I will be getting paid 200,000
yen/week (after taxes). Taking into account the cost of living in Tokyo (furnished
apartment; food; etc...), is this a larger sum ? I was hoping that I would be able
to save a good amount, do you think its possible?
Answer Hi Sherry,
Are you sure it is 200,000 yen per week? That is the average starting MONTHLY salary for a university graduate!
I would estimate the following:
rent: single room in Tokyo 75,000 yen
gas: 5000 -10,000 yen depending on how much hot water you use.
water : 1000 -2000 yen a month
cell phone: 10,000 yen
electricity: 5000 -10000 depending on season, air-conditioning and heating
lunch 500-1,000 yen
beer 200 per can
If you can get a home-stay, I recommend it. If it is 200,000 yen a week, congratulations!
