Question
what is the first step to engaging your self to your girl in the Japanese culture? And I'm talking the most common and if possible the oldest know ritual or ceremony. I have seen the  How to Exchange Yui-No Gifts Before a Japanese Wedding  instructions but is that the only real ceremony?

Answer
Hi,

That is the most notable ceremony -- actually these days things are far more casual than in the past, and many families don't go through such rituals. I would leave it up to your fiance as to how traditional they want to do things, and how many parties etc, you all want to do.
A lot depends on how traditional the family is of your future in-laws,
so I would not worry too much -- your fiance can guide you through it.

Best wishes,

Robert
