Japanese Culture - kami

Expert: Jewel - 1/14/2009

Question
Hello.

Can you please tell me, what is the plural of "kami"--such as in Shinto's "Five Kamis ~five Kamies ~five Kami?

Might it be "Kamikai"

Answer
It's really difficult to know a lot of time if someone is using kami for singular or plural because of the many differences between English and Japanese. In this case, I would use kami-gami as the plural. I haven't heard kamikai but I'm also still learning. I hope this helps some!
