Japanese Culture/Wedding gift

Question
I have a corporate customer who is a Japanese National on assignment in the USA.  He recently eloped and I would like to send him and his bride a wedding gift.  The US assignment will end in March and he and his wife will return to Japan.  What is appropriate for a wedding gift?  Is there anything traditional that I should consider?

Answer
Hello Sharon,
Thank you for your question.

There is nothing in our tradition that would suggest any type of gift in this situation. Any gift that you choose should be welcomed by the couple. Especially if this is a marriage that had detractors, any heartfelt congratulations should meet with gratitude on the groom's part.

I hope this helps.
Best regards,

Japanese Culture
