Question Hello Tim Clark.
I was just wondering if I could ask you a question about Japanese History as there are no experts in that area on this site.
During the Tokugawa era, was Samurai Life all about fighting?
Cheers
Answer Alex,
I usually answer only questions related to Shinto of Japanese religion, but I will answer this too: Of course it wasn't!! There are so many things that the samurai would do besides training to fight that it is hard to explain. Many pursued classical arts and many were parts of certain sects of buddhism. I suggest you watch some Kurosawa movies such as Sanjuro or Yojimbo, because even though these are fiction they will show a good deal of how a samurai would live in the Japanese fashion. Its a very long and detailed thing to explain exactly everything a samurai would do however...
I hope this helps!!!
