Question
In my experience with Sushi restaurants in California, the dishes are often not served at the same time. Rather they are brought to the table a few at a time. Is there a traditional/cultural explanation this?

Answer
it might be. if you ever watch Hell's Kitchen, its the same way here, usually get you the entrees or appetizers first, then the main meal. There's probably done in a certain order. that or certain dishes are either done being cooked before the others, or they are cooked before the others.
