About Dreams
Expertise
I have been teaching myself the language for the past seven years, having consistent practice with Japanese materials. I can help translate things from English to Japanese or vice versa. I can also help you get started if you're planning on taking up the language. =) I'm most familiar with things like anime, manga, J-pop, games and so on.

Experience
I began learning the language in 1999. I frequently talk with penpals and natives in Japan, as well as continually keep up practicing with authentic Japanese materials.

Japanese Language - Translation for a word...

Question
Um Greetings... I was wanting to know the Japanese word(s?) for "curse" or "cursed one" or something like that... I've been looking for Japanese names for a character. And I was hoping that somebody could help out with that. The character is the only one with black hair in a family of white haired characters... so they think she is a curse or something... So um... Thanks... Blessed Be.

Answer
Hello,

There are many options for a name here, actually. :)

The Japanese word for curse is "noroi", derived from the verb "norou" (to curse, etc). The verb can also be used in its past tense form, "norotta", to mean "cursed". There is also another longer form of the verb used for "cursed" that is written "norowareta".

There are also two adjectives that are close to what you're looking for - "bachiatari" means "cursed/damned", and "norowashii" means "accursed".

If you want to play around further with the options, you can also always add -ko to the end of a word. It is a very common ending for girls' names in Japan. So you could make something like "Noroiko" (Curse Girl/Child).

Hope that helps,
Dreams
