Subject: Count Basie in the mid 60's

Question
Hi DC -
I do not know if you can help me, but I am doing some research about the Count Basie Orchestra and heard an interesting, but heretofore unverifiable, piece of history. It has been claimed that the original Joe Williams, the vocalist credited with the band's resurgence in the mid 50's had a falling out with Count Basie in around 1964 or 1965. He was replaced by a similar sounding singer who took the same name. Is there anything you may know on this matter, or could you point me in a direction that may confirm or dispel this? Thank you.

Hello Dave and thank you for contacting me through AllExperts.com.

I apologize for the delayed response to your inquiry. It seems the AllExperts.com utility has not been forwarding mail.

Interesting story, however I have not heard anything related, sorry.

Thanks for the interest.
