Jeep Repair - fan motor

Expert: Kevin - 10/26/2009

Question
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 6 Cyl.4x4,My fan motor is running very faint or weak and I see some sparks coming from the center of the fan motor. I am getting different opinions from various mechanics, i.e. fan motor missing clutch, I went to the jeep dealer they ran the vins and my vehicle is just electric fan no clutch, Is this fan clutch optional for my vehicle? Will it make my fan motor work properly if I installed?  Otherwise I will have to just get a new fan motor and replace.  If, how do you remove and install a fan motor for my vehicle?

Answer
replace the fan motor assembly. U could be in the recall  call dealer and have them run the vin.

Safety Recall F25 - Electric Radiator Fan
NOTE: The build date range for 2002 model year vehicles has been expanded for
this recall.
2000 (WJ) Jeep® Grand Cherokee
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built from January 31, 2000
through June 12, 2000 (MDH 013100 through 061223).
2002 (WJ) Jeep® Grand Cherokee
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 4.0L engine
(“S” in the 8th VIN Position) built from February 4, 2002 through June 30, 2002

IMPORTANT: Those vehicles that have already had a new electric radiator fan
replaced, as determined by our warranty records, have been excluded from this recall.
The plastic fan blades of the electric radiator fan on about 182,800 of the above

engine to overheat. If a fan blade separates while the hood is open, those nearby
could become injured.
The electric radiator fan must be replaced.

IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle
