Jehovah`s Witness/Double Standard

Question
Hi Brenda, I read your answer regarding birthdays and presents and found it quite amusing. We have family members who are Jw's and the justify accepting birthday and Christamas presents the same way uou described "it would hurt the feelings of the giver". Give me a break! I could see maybe one or two, but to continually accept gifts for something you do not believe in is wrong! People would not be offended if you politely explained your position, if fact, they would respect you more. Our relatives have accepted gifts for over 15yrs. Then, they wonder why people view their beliefs as a joke. Do you not think thay non-witness's view this as extremely hypocritical? How can you ever be taken seriously if this kind of behavior is acceptable among your members?

Answer
"to continually accept gifts hypocritical"

The witness has told all concerned that they dont celebrate birthdays etc.so for them to "continually" GIVE gifts to someone they KNOW doesnt celebrate it, is very strange dont you think??

why dont you STOP giving them gifts then they would be delighted.

Expertise

I have been one of Jehovah`s Witneses now for over 30 years, in those years I have brought up 4 children, teaching each of them the bible.Being one of Jehovah`s Witnesses has helped me cope with my Epilepsy and bring up a daughter with learning difficulties.I have conducted bible studies with people from nearly every denomination i.e. Muslim. Having used the bible all these years to answer peoples questions, I feel I am qualified to give any answer regarding Jehovah`s Witnesses and the bible.

Experience

My experience has been one of attending bible lectures 5 times a week, taking part in these lectures in front of an audience and being with thousands of J.W. at conventions where I have seen the bible at work in peoples lives. It is truly a miracle when you see thousands of people meeting together and not one policeman needed, and not even a piece of litter in sight. It is like another world.
