I was recently talking to a Jehovah’s Witness brother who was doing some carpentry work for me about his take on the mistakes or changes in doctrine the Watchtower has made in the past regarding dates, Beth Serim, the worship of Jesus, etc. His explanation was from Proverbs 4:18 “But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established”. (NWT)
I think the words light and truth are interchangeable here, and God would NEVER reveal something that is wrong or false. Did you know there is an old Watchtower (I have a copy of it, but I couldn't figure out how to attach it to this e-mail) that says, “A new view of truth never can contradict a former truth…but adds to it”? So how can this verse possibly be used as an excuse for mistakes made by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society when even their own Watchtower magazine has said in the past that “New Light” never extinguishes older “light”?

I agree with your assessment that light and truth are interchangeable. I also think understanding, knowledge, and wisdom are interchangeable with light and truth. And by the means of Jesus Christ we (Jehovah Witnesses) are coming to an Accurate Knowledge. It is a work in progress for Jehovah's word is alive and exerts power.
However, you are misapplying the scripture at Proverbs 4:18. How can the light get lighter and lighter unless the righteous ones where in the dark in their beginning? If the "righteous ones" always knew the truth from the beginning, then there would be no need for the light to get lighter. The light continues to get lighter until "the day" is firmly established. The day is Christ Millennial Reign of a thousand years. Peter, who made many mistakes in the beginning, began to understand as the light got lighter and said, "However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day."(2 Peter 3:8) SO many scriptures where finally explained and from the beginning, we now know Adam died within that day of a thousand years, which is the same time limit used for the Day of Resurrection. (John 11:23) And now we know that the anointed will rule as kings with the Christ for a thousand years. (Rev 20:4)
Do the righteous ones ever fall down? Yes! Many times!
(Proverbs 24:16) For the righteous one may fall even seven times, and he will certainly get up
(1 John 2:1) My little children, I am writing YOU these things that YOU may not commit a sin. And yet, if anyone does commit a sin, we have a helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, a righteous one.
So as the light continues to get lighter, the righteous ones enjoy a spiritual enlightenment. Today, the truth is getting more specific and it's the Watchtower that brings this fine food.
It's the Witnesses that are fine tuning their message and being more specific. For one, in the past, it was said that Jehovah had a plan. Because the light is getting lighter, it is now said that Jehovah has a Purpose, because a plan can be thwarted but his purpose can not. At first we spoke of a second coming and from deep study we have come to a deeper understanding of the Greek word "parousia" means "presence". Again evidence of the light getting lighter.
This "spiritual enlightenment" can happen for individuals as well as for an organization. At one time many believed the trinity doctrine but further study has given Jehovah Witnesses spiritual enlightenment that Jesus is not Jehovah as (1 John 2:1) indicates. For if Jesus was Jehovah, he certainly would not be called "a helper" or "an advocate".

Proof of the light getting lighter. Amen

(Exodus 20:3) Oh, they insist Christ is "in" them, so they perform great signs and wonders. Have they never read when Jesus stated, "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones." (Matthew 24:24) Derrick Holland preaches that he was "healed". If Christ is already "in" them, why are they prophesying that Jesus is coming back in the flesh? Trinitarians often get offended when the term "gods" are used when describing their trinity or their multi-personality triune or triad of gods. However, they often use the Hebrew term (Elohim) to provide proof that the trinity or a multiple of gods exists, therefore, proving themselves merely hypocritical because Elohim when translated means "gods" in reference to angels or even human judges. They claim the three angels that visited Abraham were in fact angels but Jesus was never an angel, hypocritical isn't it? Since the Trinity doctrine claims “three separate persons” make up One God, not that, the three Gods are One God. Isn’t God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit a contradiction? "And I saw three unclean inspired expressions [that looked] like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the wild beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet." (Rev 16:13)

Questions for trinitarians: Are you a child of God or a child of the second hypostasis of the Triune God? How can Jesus be the Triune God itself in John 1:1 if he is supposed to be the second hypostasis of the Triune God? What happened to your "three person" god in John 1:1? When Jesus was praying to the Father as the only true God in (John 17:3) was he really praying to the "three person" god? How come the Triune god or any hypostasis is never mentioned in the Bible? Did you know hypostasis means "personality" and not a person as falsely taught by trinitarians? Are you saying Hebrews 5:8 is Wrong? "Although he was a Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered;" Are you saying according to your doctrine, it should read "Although he was (GOD), he learned obedience from the things he suffered;"?? See how silly they are? They spend all their time preaching a different Jesus making him into God that they deny Jesus as Jehovah's Christ, his chosen one. The KJV states an erroneous and false scripture that "God manifested in the flesh". Really? Notice they don't teach Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh! "For many deceivers have gone forth into the world, persons not confessing Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist." (2 John 7) Oh, It get's worse, right down Satanic, trinitarians and born agains falsely preach "ego eimi" means God. So here we see Paul use the (I am). "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." (1 Timothy 1:15 KJV) Are they really preaching that Paul is God or that God is the chief sinner of all? Christendom teaches we are saved by "Grace" not judged by works. But what does the Bible Really teach?? "hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works." (Rev 20:13)

Christendom is False Christianity, including born agains that hold to the man-made doctrines of the trinity, immortal soul, and eternal hellfire. These teachings are not new but are found in paganism 2,500 years before Jesus Christ came in the flesh. Adoption of Pagan beliefs and pagan idols are rejected by Jehovah Witnesses for what they are. Lies. WE don't follow man as Christendom follows those fellas at the Council of Nicene. No matter what part of Christendom you may be or not be, all parts worship the same Roman Dogma founded by Constantine in 325 CE. If you follow religion, you will see that all religions participate in politics, war mongering, and the killing of one another because of race or nationality with one exception, (Jehovah Witnesses) who are no part of the world and have a multi-national brotherhood. Paul preached to some of the scribes that he seen an angel and that this spirit was in fact Jesus in his true form even though premature. (Acts 9:3-5, Acts 23:9, Rev 22:16) The KJV is a "Doctrine of Mistranslations." Few know the KJV as well as JW's do. Theos when translated to English without the definite article means (a god) as it is written in Acts 28:6. Theologians are in deep error in their rejection that (theos) can't be used in the feminine sense of "the only-begotten god" in as in John 1:18. Notice the feminine noun of theos is (a god) since Jesus was begotten. I guess those theologians never looked up the Strong's Concordance at (http://concordances.org/greek/2316.htm) Funny how the KJV removed theos from that scripture also. The KJV, simply a book of evolution that Christendom's Translators can't get right, even changing terminology in John 1:18 by refusing to translate theos as "the begotten god" in the Greek scripture. LOL
