AboutDerrick Holland Expertise I was raised in the religion known as Jehovah`s Witnesses for 13 years. Since becoming a born-again Christian, I have researched extensively this religion, especially their doctrines and their history. I can answer questions about their doctrines from the perspective of Biblical Christianity.
Experience 23 years of Biblical research into the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith, and how they differ from the teachings of the Watchtower.
Question What is/are the difference between the spirit and soul of human person?
Answer Hello Gabriel, and thanks for writing. I apologize for the delay, but have been trying to get my answers caught back up here lately.
Wow, this is a VERY complex and lengthy study, and one that would take hours to cover all the details. Let me add a few brief comments of my own, and then I am going to enclose some links to some pretty good and in-depth studies on this subject for you to look at as well.
First of all, this question has been talked about and asked by many down through the years. And I am not sure the Bible contains all the information we need to cover every single detail. We do know from reading the Scriptures, that they are not the same, though they ARE very closely connected and inter-twined together. But according to Hebrews 4:12, they can be separated by the Word of God.......
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart"
It has been said that the soul is the seat of the emotions, while the spirit is is the vital spiritual essence in which the body possesses the power of knowing, desiring, deciding, and acting. I know that is a rather simplistic answer for such an indepth question, and I also realize the 2 over-lap somewhat.
One thing is certain....Both leave the physical body at death, and go to be with God in Heaven if the person is saved (Luke 23:46, Acts 7:59, Eccl. 12:7, Gen. 35:18, Rev. 6:9-11, Rev. 20:4)
But we also see that, although the spirit, soul, and body all come together to comprise the whole person, they are spoken of as separate as well. 1 Thess. 5:23...........
" And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
