Jehovah`s Witness/CHRISTMAS!,Is it based on the Bible?

MATT 24:14 "for a witness to all the nations! Thank you Sis. T

Hello and thanks for writing.

Christmas, to answer your question in short, NO, it's not based on the Bible.  Why?  Because Christmas is a lie, it's based on the lie that Jesus was born on Dec. 25th among other things.

The Bible doesn't give us the date of Jesus' birth, but only gives us the day that he died, Nisan 14, 33 CE.  What Jesus did for us is so important that the Hebrew scriptures speak about it and what he was to incur, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John expanding out through the entire Bible is about what Jesus did for us.  So if we were supposed to celebrate his birthday, then the Bible would have given it like we know the day he died, and Jesus would have told his followers to celebrate it.  We see he celebrated the Passover, year after year, and died on Passover night.  We see Jesus even attended a Marriage feast where he changed water to wine, but no where do we see him or his apostles ever celebrating Jesus birthday or their own.

But we do see that people in those times celebrated their birthdays, the Bible mentions a few birthday celebrations, Herod had John the Baptist beheaded during his celebration, (Matt 14:6-10) so it was being done, but no where do we see any who worshiped Jehovah celebrating or having a birthday celebration.

Second, we know that Christmas derived from a Pagan festival called Saturnalia.

The New Catholic Encyclopedia acknowledges: “The date of Christ’s birth is not known. The gospels indicate neither the day nor the month . . . According to the hypothesis suggested by H. Usener . . . and accepted by most scholars today, the birth of Christ was assigned the date of the winter solstice (December 25 in the Julian Calendar, January 6 in the Egyptian), because on this day, as the sun began its return to northern skies, the pagan devotees of Mithra celebrated the dies natalis Solis Invicti (birthday of the invincible sun). On Dec. 25, 274, Aurelian had proclaimed the sun-god principal patron of the empire and dedicated a temple to him in the Campus Martius. Christmas originated at a time when the cult of the sun was particularly strong at Rome.”

So we have a day that someone chose to make as Jesus' birthday, which was originally a celebration that God would not approve of because it was worshiping of the sun.  Jehovah said we are to have no gods against his face (Ex. 20:3).

Being that Jesus was not born on that day, it makes it a lie...and we cannot worship Jehovah acceptably if we are celebrating a lie.

John 4:23, 24 says, "Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”

We have to remember that it says, those worshiping MUST worship with spirit and TRUTH.  If it's not truth, it's not acceptable to God, there's no way around that, none.

Some people say they just do it for tradition, but that's not OK either as we see here

Col. 2:8 "Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry YOU off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ"

The reason that we suffer today, the reason why we die and our loved ones die, the reason why we get sick, grow old is all because of a LIE!  There is no lie that is acceptable to Jehovah, not one!

As we see how serious lying is, it's cited with incurring the second death, that of which is eternal destruction, meaning no resurrection.

Rev. 21:8 "But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death.”

It says, "all the liars" not some.  We definitely do not want to be among these ones

Prov 6:118 "There are six things that Jehovah does hate; yes, seven are things detestable to his soul: 17 lofty eyes, a false tongue, and hands that are shedding innocent blood, 18 a heart fabricating hurtful schemes, feet that are in a hurry to run to badness, 19 a false witness that launches forth lies, and anyone sending forth contentions among brothers."

So once we see how Jehovah feels about lies and how we should feel too because of what we have to suffer because of a lie (Gen. 3:4).  When we celebrate a lie, we are only pleasing Satan, who is the Father of the lie (John 8:44).

Now let's examine a few things about Christmas once again.

Christmas is celebrated as Jesus' birthday on Dec. 25th, lie.

There were 3 wise men, lie, the Bible doesn't say how many men came and the men were Magi or astrologers.  Jehovah did not approve of astrology, which is a form of spiritism (Isa.47:13-15, Deut. 18:10-12)

According to the xmas story these 3 wise men saw a star sent by God which led them to where Jesus was born laying in the manger and they presented their gifts.  LIE!

The Bible account in Matt chapter 2 says that the astrologers, no number given, went to King Herod in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem looking for Jesus and told Herod they saw his star in the East.  Now why would God send men he doesn't approve of in the first place to a King who wants to kill Jesus?  Even though the astrologers didn't know King Herod's intentions, Jehovah would know, and also someone who wanted Jesus dead would know too, Satan.

If those 'wise men' were approved by Jehovah and was led by a star that Jehovah sent, then there is no way they would have gone to Jerusalem first (Matt 2:1), because the Jews knew that Jesus was to be born in Bethlehem, how do we know this, we read

Matt 2:4-6 "and on gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people he began to inquire of them where the Christ was to be born.5They said to him: “In Beth′le‧hem of Ju‧de′a; for this is how it has been written through the prophet,6‘And you, O Beth′le‧hem of the land of Judah, are by no means the most insignificant [city] among the governors of Judah; for out of you will come forth a governing one, who will shepherd my people, Israel.’”

Once they knew where he was to be born, Herod figured out how old Jesus may have been by now, because some time had passed, he was no longer in the manger, Mary gave birth and laid him in a manger, she did not live there where the manger was.  So once he determined when they first saw this 'star' he sent them to Bethlehem.  Then the men saw the star again, Jehovah knew Herod's intentions and so there is no way he'd put the star there yet again which led the men to the 'house' not where the manger was at but where the 'young child' (not baby) was now.

Matt 2:9-11  "When they had heard the king, they went their way; and, look! the star they had seen [when they were] in the east went ahead of them, until it came to a stop above where the young child was.10On seeing the star they rejoiced very much indeed.11And when they went into the house they saw the young child with Mary its mother, and, falling down, they did obeisance to it. They also opened their treasures and presented it with gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh"

And because Jehovah warned the men not to return to Herod, (Matt 2:12) doesn't mean the men were approved by him, because Herod lied to the men in the first place, they didn't know his bad intentions, but Jehovah knew and so made sure they did not report back to Herod.

So that star was not from God, but from Satan, in his attempt to kill Jesus.  But Jehovah did not permit it.

But even after that Satan didn't stop, no, but once Herod did not hear back from the astrologers, he ordered that all the children be killed from age 2 and under.  So imagine your children who are 2 and under being slaughtered

Matt 2:16 "Then Herod, seeing he had been outwitted by the astrologers, fell into a great rage, and he sent out and had all the boys in Beth′le‧hem and in all its districts done away with, from two years of age and under, according to the time that he had carefully ascertained from the astrologers"

So this is the Christmas that people celebrate, a big fat lie that had its beginnings in pagan worship and ended with many little children being killed!!  That star that many put at the top of their xmas trees was really there as a way for Satan to try and do away with Jesus!!

There is nothing about Christ in Christmas, and celebrating it along with the many lies it holds to is really celebrating Satan's attempt to kill Jesus!

That's why true Christians do not celebrate the lie called Christmas as it's not based on Bible truths!

Hope that helps.

I can answer questions related to Jehovah's Witnesses and the Bible. I love learning the truth from the Bible and helping others to learn that truth as well. I don't know everything but will answer from the Bible, I like to use illustrations as well to help a person relate to what is being said. The Bible has the last say so over any person.

I am an active baptized Jehovah's Witness and Jehovah is Almighty God,(Ps. 83:18) and his Son Jesus Christ died so that everyone exercising faith in him may not be destroyed but have everlasting life. (John 3:16). I support my fellow Witnesses on this board who are real, and Jehovah's worldwide visible organization, including the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. As God is not a God of disorder, and there could not be order if there were not ones to take the lead. Taking the lead and having a leader is not the same, our leader is Jesus Christ, and in order to have unity and order, there has to be arrangements in place. As the first century Christians had, there were men taking the lead, (Acts 6:1-6) as with Moses, (Exodus 18:21) and in our day, in following with Bible truths, we do the same. When people twist that around to us worshiping men, it is just a straight out lie! Why would the Scripture at 1 Tim. 3:1-10, 12, 13 give the criteria for men reaching out for an office of overseer if that was not meant to be? (Phil 1:1, Acts 20:17, 28, Eph. 4:11, 12, 2 Cor. 3:4-6). If we were not supposed to have men who take the lead, why was this scripture penned? James 5:14-15 "Is there anyone sick among YOU? Let him call the older men of the congregation to [him], and let them pray over him, greasing [him] with oil in the name of Jehovah. 15 And the prayer of faith will make the indisposed one well, and Jehovah will raise him up. Also, if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him."

If you have legit questions and want to know the truth, please ask, but if you are here to spread your lies and twists of the scriptures or get your falsehoods out, you may get rejected! The truth is from the Bible, if what you say does not harmonize with the Bible then what you say is wrong! Context and other scriptures help determine scriptures that may stump us, let scripture interpret scripture. The Bible does not contradict itself, so if what you are being taught or if what you are teaching makes it seem like the Bible is contradictory, remember it's not the Bible it's the man-made teaching! Doctrines of men! Mark 7:6, 7 "He said to them: “Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honor me with [their] lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. 7 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men." (also Romans 10:2, 3)

Matthew 24:14 says "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." We are doing that today, we are living in times of Bible Prophecy and as a Jehovah's Witness, we have the privilege to be apart of a prophecy spoken by Jesus himself! The good news of the Kingdom. Ask yourself, what kingdom? then read Daniel 2:44! It's a real government. Take heed now! Listening to men over God will mean your life.(Prov 3:5,6, Ps. 146:3) A lie will never become truth, No matter how long or how many people say it or speak it. Learn what the Bible really teaches, seek out Jehovah's ways, serving God in truth is only acceptable to him,(John 4:23, 24) you can not be serving God acceptably if what you believe is a lie! Pray for understanding and ask Jehovah to search your heart and draw you! (John 6:44, 65) Now is the time to be with the people who are called by Jehovah's name! (Acts 15:14, 17, Isa. 43:7, 10, Zech 8:23)
