Question
QUESTION: Good day

can you please answer this question for me? (with scriptures and not material copied and pasted from the watchtower library)

Who replaced Judas? Did the eleven apostles have the power and authority to chose a replacement for Judas? And why did Paul repeatedly say he is an apostle? and lastly whose name will be on the foundation stones of the new Jerusalem, Paul's or Matthias?

Thank you
Modise

ANSWER: Hello

thanks for writing

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Who replaced Judas?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Matthias

This is a prophecy about Judas and one who would replace Judas

Psalms 109:

8 "Let his days prove to be few;
His office of oversight let someone else take"

This one was Matthias

Acts 1:

23 "So they put up two, Joseph called Bar′sab·bas, who was surnamed Justus, and Mat·thi′as. 24 And they prayed and said: “You, O Jehovah, who know the hearts of all, designate which one of these two men you have chosen, 25 to take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas deviated to go to his own place.” 26 So they cast lots over them, and the lot fell upon Mat·thi′as; and he was reckoned along with the eleven apostles"

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Did the eleven apostles have the power and authority to chose a replacement for Judas?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jehovah chose him through the other apostles. They prayed and a decision was reached as we saw above.

Incidentally this is the same as today in Jehovah's organization we pray and a decision is reached, however lots aren't used today scriptures are instead.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<And why did Paul repeatedly say he is an apostle?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Because apostle means sent forth and he was sent forth personally by Jesus

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<and lastly whose name will be on the foundation stones of the new Jerusalem, Paul's or Matthias?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It's the twelve foundation stones it would have been Judas so it's now Matthias

Rev 21:

14 "The wall of the city also had twelve foundation stones, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb"

The twelve where already picked before Paul came on the scene.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response

One would argue that Jesus spent 40 days with the 11 before ascending to heaven and had plenty of time to chose the replacement and another issue would be that Jesus told the apostles to "wait" - wouldn't you say that they went ahead of Jesus in chosing Matthias?

I am not sure if you know the implication of their actions - you said they prayed to Jehovah in order to chose the replacement and yet they threw lots? That means the two cancedidates had 50/50 chances of being chosen, did Jesus do that in chosing the orinal 12? No, he prayed to Jehovah and Jehovah told him who to chose, the same would be for Paul. AFter his ascention he most probably conversed with his Father in who to chose.

I personally believe that Paul is the replacement and not Matthias

ANSWER: I don't get your point.

Lots where used as Jehovah's decisions in scripture you'd pray cast the lots and the decision was made.

That's how it worked virtually from the beginning

Lev 16:

7 "And he must take the two goats and make them stand before Jehovah at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 8 And Aaron must draw lots over the two goats, the one lot for Jehovah and the other lot for A·za′zel"

There's no 50/50 involved!!

There's a couple of points here that you're missing the first one is this.

What you're forgetting is that the twelve foundation stones had to be in place before the start of the Christian congregation

Eph 2:

20 "and YOU have been built up upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, while Christ Jesus himself is the foundation cornerstone"

That was the whole point of it that's why they're called FOUNDATION stones you have to have all foundation stones in place before you can build anything . Paul came on AFTER the beginning of the Christian congregation.

Second point

The actual account tells us that Matthias replaced Judas the Bible says it RIGHT HERE.

Acts 1:

15 "Now during these days Peter rose up in the midst of the brothers and said (the crowd of persons was all together about one hundred and twenty): 16 “Men, brothers, it was necessary for the scripture to be fulfilled, which the holy spirit spoke beforehand by David’s mouth about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus, 17 because he had been numbered among us and he obtained a share in this ministry" .........................................23 So they put up two, Joseph called Bar′sab·bas, who was surnamed Justus, and Mat·thi′as.

So unless you want to claim that you don't believe this scripture here

2 Tim 3:

16 "All Scripture is inspired of God"

Then your argument fails immediately and so does Pearl Doxsey's if she on here trying to teach the Bible why is she telling people the Bible is wrong?? and why do you agree??

Acts 20:

30 "and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves"

QUESTION: i get what you saying but please answer me this.

Peter instigated this, did he pray first about the matter at hand?

He brought up the prophecy at Psalms 109:

8 "Let his days prove to be few;
His office of oversight let someone else take"

Did that in any way indicate that the 11 remaining had to fulfill that? Paul took up the place left by Judas.

The requirements for the replacement as brought up by Peter were they divinely inspired?

Answer
Yes course they where divinely inspired. That's what the accounts telling us.

It's a scriptural account, you do realize that saying this account is wrong and the eleven apostles where wrong here, has far reaching implications for your belief in the Bible, you do realize that right?? Your belief in the Bible crumbles and falls you can now pick and choose what's right and what's wrong and where it's wrong in scripture.

So what's the real issue here. You doubt the Bible's inspired of God or you WANT to listen to someone's false teachings that are opposite to ours??

Expertise

I have many years of experience serving Jehovah . I have known Jehovah a long time and I have known his organization . I have been privileged to see great progress not only in my own personal relationship with my God and Father but within his organization. I am an avid reader of the bible and have been gifted by my Father with the indescribable privilege of being allowed to understand his own word.

Experience

The truth is all about scripture and logic. The two go hand in hand . There is not one bible verse that cannot be understood within the realms of human reasoning. Not one!! Why would it?? The bible is God's message to his creation . His creation who he made to understand things in a specific way. God is not stupid or unwise as to leave as a message then allow us to guess what it means or who he is. 1 Tim 2:3This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth" Notice the expression "accurate knowledge".

Organizations
The bible leaves signs of true christianity there are many. Jehovah's witnesses meet every single sign. One sign is the removal of false teachings that permeated the world soon after the apostles died. Jesus foretold this and he also foretold of the restoration of pure worship in the period known as the last days. The days we are currently living in. Jesus was a master of using illustrations he used an illustration to highlight this point Matt 13: "The Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a man who sowed fine seed in his field. 25While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat and left. 26When the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared. 27So the slaves of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it have weeds?’ 28He said to them, ‘An enemy, a man, did this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go out and collect them?’ 29He said, ‘No, for fear that while collecting the weeds, you uproot the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest season, I will tell the reapers: First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up; then gather the wheat into my storehouse" Why did he speak in illustrations? Matt 13:10So the disciples came and said to him: “Why do you speak to them by the use of illustrations?” 11In reply he said: “To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the Kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not granted" The kingdom of the heavens is full of sacred secrets that Jesus reveals only to his followers. This privilege is open to all who are really willing to submit to God and his Christ in action not just in words. These are the ones God is looking for. Are you really one?? If so I encourage you to let Jehovah's witnesses show you what the Bible really teaches.

Education/Credentials
False religion is disgusting to God and to his true worshippers it is likened in the Bible to a harlot Rev 17:"I will show you the judgment upon the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, whereas those who inhabit the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication" Whereas the bride of Christ is likened to a virgin Rev 14: 4"These are the ones who did not defile themselves with women; in fact, they are virgins" These are both used as spiritual terms here and show the importance of pure and clean worship for God's people.
