Jehovah`s Witness/Praying to Jesus

Question

Just wanted to have any further explanation from you!Because Derrick says:

"There are other passages of Scripture also, which show prayer being directed to Jesus, indicate that it is proper to do so....

Acts 7:59-60
1 John 5:11-15
Rev. 22:20

If Jesus were not God, then prayer to Him would be inappropriate.  Because He is, then it is perfectly proper to address Jesus in prayer.  "

-- Is it PROPER to address JESUS in a PRAYER? I mean, John 14:14(modern versions) how can you reconcile the word (ME) there? And what Jesus meant by saying that??

Looking forward...

Answer
Hello mate

Thanks for writing

Despite Derrick's foolish claims there is no suggestion in the Bible of praying to Jesus. This is what Jesus said.

Matt 6:

9 “you MUST pray, then, this way:
“‘Our Father in the heavens"

See the word MUST for someone who likes to pick on words, it's funny how Derrick doesn't understand what the word MUST means.

How about this one here

John 16:

23 " And in that day you will ask me no question at all. Most truly I say to YOU, If YOU ask the Father for anything he will give it to YOU in my name"

Quite simple you ask Jesus nothing at all only Jehovah, his father.

Let's have a look at one more. Look at who Paul prayed too.

Ephesians 4:

14  "On account of this I bend my knees to the Father"

There is no suggestion ANYWHERE in the Bible that Jesus was prayed too.

Let's look at these scriptures.

Acts 7:

59 " And they went on casting stones at Stephen as he made appeal and said: “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then, bending his knees, he cried out with a strong voice: “Jehovah, do not charge this sin against them.” And after saying this he fell asleep [in death]"

How can anyone work out this is a prayer , it was basically a face to face appeal!! A face to face appeal is not a prayer.

1 John 5:

11 " And this is the witness given, that God gave us everlasting life, and this life is in his Son. 12  "He that has the Son has this life; he that does not have the Son of God does not have this life.
13 I write YOU these things that YOU may know that YOU have life everlasting, YOU who put YOUR faith in the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him(GOD), that, no matter what it is that we ask according to his will(God's will), he(God) hears us. 15 Further, if we know he(God) hears us respecting whatever we are asking, we know we are to have the things asked since we have asked them of him(God)"

This passage is talking about God not Jesus . God gave us everlasting life through Jesus(vs 11) and whatever we ask God he hears us, "him", "his" and "he" is God not Jesus. Notice this bit.

vs 14  "And this is the confidence that we have toward him it is that we ask according to his will"

Compare to this in 1 John

2 :16 "does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever"

God is the Father and it's the Father who's will we do. So this tells you that this is referring to Jehovah God not Jesus.

20 “He that bears witness of these things says, ‘Yes; I am coming quickly.’”
“Amen! Come, Lord Jesus.”

Again how is this a prayer to Jesus he can see Jesus in vision speaking to him and he was just responding to Jesus words.

Jesus just said to him "I'm coming quickly" and he say's "surely(Amen)come lord Jesus"

How is John praying to Jesus ?? It's a response to what he just heard. Just look at the context!!!

So i'm afraid as usual Derrick and Christendom are incredibly confused and don't understand what the word MUST means or even what a prayer is!!

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<I mean, John 14:14(modern versions) how can you reconcile the word (ME) there? And what Jesus meant by saying that??>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The fact is it's a disputed text "ask me" does not work in harmony with the rest of the bible, many Bibles do not render it that way.

This is how it's rendered in the sahidic coptic text

"If you should ask anything in my name, this I will do."

Which is in harmony with the rest of the Bible

So the fact remains it is catastrophically poor to base a doctrine on disputed texts, not being able to distinguish the difference between a prayer and a face to face exclamation and not using the Bible to interprate the Bible and what's really sad is Christendom don't even understand what the word MUST means.

Expertise

I have many years of experience serving Jehovah . I have known Jehovah a long time and I have known his organization . I have been privileged to see great progress not only in my own personal relationship with my God and Father but within his organization. I am an avid reader of the bible and have been gifted by my Father with the indescribable privilege of being allowed to understand his own word.

Experience

The truth is all about scripture and logic. The two go hand in hand . There is not one bible verse that cannot be understood within the realms of human reasoning. Not one!! Why would it?? The bible is God's message to his creation . His creation who he made to understand things in a specific way. God is not stupid or unwise as to leave as a message then allow us to guess what it means or who he is. 1 Tim 2:3This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth" Notice the expression "accurate knowledge".

Organizations
The bible leaves signs of true christianity there are many. Jehovah's witnesses meet every single sign. One sign is the removal of false teachings that permeated the world soon after the apostles died. Jesus foretold this and he also foretold of the restoration of pure worship in the period known as the last days. The days we are currently living in. Jesus was a master of using illustrations he used an illustration to highlight this point Matt 13: "The Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a man who sowed fine seed in his field. 25While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat and left. 26When the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared. 27So the slaves of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it have weeds?’ 28He said to them, ‘An enemy, a man, did this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go out and collect them?’ 29He said, ‘No, for fear that while collecting the weeds, you uproot the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest season, I will tell the reapers: First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up; then gather the wheat into my storehouse" Why did he speak in illustrations? Matt 13:10So the disciples came and said to him: “Why do you speak to them by the use of illustrations?” 11In reply he said: “To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the Kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not granted" The kingdom of the heavens is full of sacred secrets that Jesus reveals only to his followers. This privilege is open to all who are really willing to submit to God and his Christ in action not just in words. These are the ones God is looking for. Are you really one?? If so I encourage you to let Jehovah's witnesses show you what the Bible really teaches.

Education/Credentials
False religion is disgusting to God and to his true worshippers it is likened in the Bible to a harlot Rev 17:"I will show you the judgment upon the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, whereas those who inhabit the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication" Whereas the bride of Christ is likened to a virgin Rev 14: 4"These are the ones who did not defile themselves with women; in fact, they are virgins" These are both used as spiritual terms here and show the importance of pure and clean worship for God's people.
