Question
QUESTION: Hello again EddieG

Thank you once again for the last response. I can see your point.

However, why is it that the Holy Spirit was said to be speaking or talking?

I may agree that personalizing something don't prove directly that it's a person. Like the wisdom having children, and SIN was liken to a reigning King and so on. But just to that case, because NOT ONLY the Holy Spirit was being personalized, but it's also being said to be TALKING, or SPEAKING. Like these here as per my KJV:

Acts 8:29
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

Acts 10:19
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

Acts 13:2
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
___________________________
So the difference between all other PERSONIFICATIONS in the bible from the Holy Spirit, was that, the HOLY SPIRIT was in ACTUAL "TALKING/SPEAKING" He has His own personal voice.

ANSWER: Hi Dave,

Thanks for writing back.

But you know what to help you understand the Bible more clearly, may I suggest to use the New World Translation published by Jehovah's Witnesses?

You see part of the problem if not most of the problem related to understanding the Bible is the version people used.

I don't know if you know this, but there was a time we used to use the KJV Bible in our studies and preaching activities. So we know the ins and outs of this translation - its many mistakes, errors, mistranslations, additions, editions and blatant corruption of the word of God, its inferiority. Thus the NWT was produced to in order to elevate the Word Of God to its glorious form and show what the Word Of God truly is! A Life Giving book.

“For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and [their] marrow, and [is] able to discern thoughts and intentions of [the] heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

The other part of the problem is NOT considering the CONTEXT of the verse and other supporting texts dealing with the same SUBJECT.

Case in point.

Let's take a look at the scriptures you quoted.

Like you said:

>> ...NOT ONLY the Holy Spirit was being personalized, but it's also being said to be TALKING, or SPEAKING. Like these here as per my KJV:

"Acts 8:29
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

Acts 10:19
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

Acts 13:2
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

...
So the difference between all other PERSONIFICATIONS in the bible from the Holy Spirit, was that, the HOLY SPIRIT was in ACTUAL "TALKING/SPEAKING" He has His own personal voice.<<<

Let me emphasize what you said:

the HOLY SPIRIT was in ACTUAL "TALKING/SPEAKING" He has His own personal voice.

If this understanding is from you then I may give you a leeway but if this is from your pastor then shame on him for he's leading you to a wrong if not blatant understanding.

The reason a I say this is because the CONTEXT of the two verses you quoted explains it clearly that what was ACTUALLY "TALKING/SPEAKING" is NOT the holy spirit but A spirit, meaning an ANGEL - who is by definition a Spirit.

Notice using your own KJV Bible, pay particular attention to verse 26:

Act 8:26 KJV - "And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert."

Acts 8:29
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

Hbr 1:7 KJV - "And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire."

So it's clear from the context that it was "the angel of Lord" that spoke to Paul NOT the holy spirit.

Next you quoted:

Acts 13:2
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

and followed it with this:

>>So the difference between all other PERSONIFICATIONS in the bible from the Holy Spirit, was that, the HOLY SPIRIT was in ACTUAL "TALKING/SPEAKING" He has His own personal voice.<<

Again NO, the conclusion is incorrect because like I said before, God's holy spirit is a powerful force. It was used by Jesus (the master worker of God) to create all (other) things whether visible and invisible! It was also used by God to INSPIRE people to write the Bible!

“All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16)

“The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children.” (Romans 8:16)

Now if the holy spirit can be used by Jehovah in such a powerful way, how difficult will it be for Him to COMMUNICATE to people using it?.

Not difficult at all.

“For YOU know this first, that no prophecy of Scripture springs from any private interpretation. 21 For prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20, 21)

““And after that it must occur that I shall pour out my spirit on every sort of flesh, and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters will certainly prophesy. As for YOUR old men, dreams they will dream. As for YOUR young men, visions they will see. 29 And even on the menservants and on the maidservants in those days I shall pour out my spirit. 30 “And I will give portents in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. 31 The sun itself will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and fear-inspiring day of Jehovah. 32 And it must occur that everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will get away safe; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will prove to be the escaped ones, just as Jehovah has said, and in among the survivors, whom Jehovah is calling.”” (Joel 2:28-32)

In fact if you have God's holy spirit it will make you do these:

“. . .On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Moreover, those who belong to Christ Jesus impaled the flesh together with its passions and desires. 25 If we are living by spirit, let us go on walking orderly also by spirit. 26 Let us not become egotistical, stirring up competition with one another, envying one another.” (Galatians 5:22-26)

So in conclusion, just because God's holy spirit seem to be talking like a person - does not mean that's its a person, much like your conscience condemns you and make you fell miserable if you've done something bad.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Thank you for that EddieG

So, who is talking out here?

Acts 13:2 **K J V**
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

**N W T**
2 As they were publicly ministering to Jehovah and fasting, the holy spirit said: “Of all persons set Bar′na·bas and Saul apart for me for the work to which I have called them.”

>>It doesn't point to an ANGEL at this time.

Answer
Hi Dave,

Thanks for writing.

First of all let's establish this fact.

If the holy spirit is a person were the disciples of Jesus filled with a person or filled with power when the holy spirit was poured upon them?

I'm sure you will agree with me that they were filled with power not a person.

For the prophecy said, according to the prophet Joel:

““... it must occur that I shall pour out my spirit on every sort of flesh, and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters will certainly prophesy. As for YOUR old men, dreams they will dream. As for YOUR young men, visions they will see. 29 And even on the menservants and on the maidservants in those days I shall pour out my spirit.” (Joel 2:28, 29)

Jesus even confirmed this:

“but YOU will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon YOU, and YOU will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Ju·de′a and Sa·mar′i·a and to the most distant part of the earth.”” (Acts 1:8)

This was fulfilled in the first century C.E. when Jesus' (120) disciples were gathered in the upper room of a house.

The event says:

(Acts 2:1-4) “Now while the day of the [festival of] Pentecost was in progress they were all together at the same place, 2 and suddenly there occurred from heaven a noise just like that of a rushing stiff breeze, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. 3 And tongues as if of fire became visible to them and were distributed about, and one sat upon each one of them, 4 and they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak with different tongues, just as the spirit was granting them to make utterance.”

Noting the fulfillment Peter said:

(Acts 2:14-18) “. . .But Peter stood up with the eleven and raised his voice and made this utterance to them: “Men of Ju·de′a and all YOU inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to YOU and give ear to my sayings. 15 These [people] are, in fact, not drunk, as YOU suppose, for it is the third hour of the day. 16 On the contrary, this is what was said through the prophet Joel, 17 ‘“And in the last days,” God says, “I shall pour out some of my spirit upon every sort of flesh, and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters will prophesy and YOUR young men will see visions and YOUR old men will dream dreams; 18 and even upon my men slaves and upon my women slaves I will pour out some of my spirit in those days, and they will prophesy...”’”

Thus anyone who received the holy spirit was given a "gift".

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but there is the same spirit; 5 and there are varieties of ministries, and yet there is the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of operations, and yet it is the same God who performs all the operations in all persons. 7 But the manifestation of the spirit is given to each one for a beneficial purpose. 8 For example, to one there is given through the spirit speech of wisdom, to another speech of knowledge according to the same spirit, 9 to another faith by the same spirit, to another gifts of healings by that one spirit, 10 to yet another operations of powerful works, to another prophesying, to another discernment of inspired utterances, to another different tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues. 11 But all these operations the one and the same spirit performs, making a distribution to each one respectively just as it wills.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

So it's clear from these scriptures that these men and women were filled will power, for after they received the holy spirit they were able to do miraculous things such speaking in  different tongues, raising the dead, healing the sick, etc.

Now if they are able to do such things by means of God's holy spirit, how DIFFICULT would it be for God to make his spirit (his active force) talked to them?

It this difficult or even impossible for God to do?

Not at all! Think about it his way Dave, you have a radio right? Since you hear voices of a persons coming from it, is the radio a person or not?

Of course not.

If so why then the voice?

What makes the radio speak to you like a person? Better yet, you have a cell phone right?

Is the cell phone a person since you're talking to it?

Of course not but if you analyze it, its not actually voices that travel through space that your radio or your cell phone picks up but radio waves. The circuits in your radio/cell phone converts the signals into bits of information - that is, digital signals of 0's and 1's. Then the 'bits' gets converted into analog signals and outputs them through the speakers. Your ear drums then picks the sound waves created by the speakers - then the brain interprets them into speech. That's how we recognize the words. Now, if you you don't understand Spanish then you won't know the meaning of the sounds. It takes understanding to know what the words mean.

As for the holy spirit, although we don't have a full understanding of how it operates, how it talks to us, we can in a similar way, envision how it works just like radio waves.

Now, if puny men can do this, send sound signals to the outer edges of our solar system and receive it back years later. How difficult would it be for God to send signals to us through his holy spirit?

Not difficult at all since our brain was created by God, capable of TUNING in to his spirit.

If fact we're being encourage to be led by it.

“Teach me to do your will, For you are my God. Your spirit is good; May it lead me in the land of uprightness.” (Psalm 143:10)

Even Jesus was led by it.

“Now Jesus, full of holy spirit, turned away from the Jordan, and he was led about by the spirit in the wilderness” (Luke 4:1)

Jesus himself advices us to ask for IT:

“Accordingly I say to YOU, Keep on asking, and it will be given YOU; keep on seeking, and YOU will find; keep on knocking, and it will be opened to YOU. 10 For everyone asking receives, and everyone seeking finds, and to everyone knocking it will be opened. 11 Indeed, which father is there among YOU who, if his son asks for a fish, will perhaps hand him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he also asks for an egg, will hand him a scorpion? 13 Therefore, if YOU, although being wicked, know how to give good gifts to YOUR children, how much more so will the Father in heaven give holy spirit to those asking him!”” (Luke 11:9-13)

In fact, the holy spirit can be shared with other people (as in the case of Moses):

“And I shall have to come down and speak with you there; and I shall have to take away some of the spirit that is upon you and place it upon them, and they will have to help you in carrying the load of the people that you may not carry it, just you alone.” (Numbers 11:17)

As in the case of the apostles:

“. . .In the course of events, while A·pol′los was in Corinth, Paul went through the inland parts and came down to Eph′e·sus, and found some disciples; 2 and he said to them: “Did you receive holy spirit when YOU became believers?” They said to him: “Why, we have never heard whether there is a holy spirit.” 3 And he said: “In what, then, were YOU baptized?” They said: “In John’s baptism.” 4 Paul said: “John baptized with the baptism [in symbol] of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they got baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul laid his hands upon them, the holy spirit came upon them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. 7 All together, there were about twelve men.” (Acts 19:1-7)

So clearly, the holy spirit is NOT a person but a force.

I can provide more scriptures showing proof that the holy spirit is NOT a person but a powerful force from Jehovah God, but if none of these convinces you then nothing will.
