Jehovah`s Witness/What is meekness, how do we seek it and why is it vital? (Zeph 2:2,3)
Hello brother, my husband & I have been married for 30yrs. now, & I was SO blessed when he got baptised 2yrs. ago! Now that he is progressing, he has his 1st talk next week, for the Ministry School, week of April 22,(Talk No.3), Subject as above.I can only give him pointers, but, in all his nearly 76yrs., he has never had to put something like this together and I was hoping you might be able to give him some answers, which would help him get thru this 1st time!!! It's only 5mins. long, but, I'm sure U, as a brother, will understand how daunting UR 1st time was, on top of which, he had a "triple heart bi-pass", and get's very stressed!!!!! Please, can u help? hoping to hear from u soon, this comes with lots of agape luv, Llen Nelson
Thanks for writing and I commend your effort to assist your husband on his talk assignment. Pls tell my dear brother not to worry and not stress over it as he is among friends. We're all there to help and support each other whenever we can. But of course it's human nature to get nervous when giving any talk in front of an audience. That's normal and to be expected. My advice to minimize the anxiety is to pray for holy spirit from our loving Father Jehovah God and take a good night sleep. It helps you be alert and stay alert and gives you the strength to carry on whatever the days task is.
Now on to the talk:
Title: What is meekness, how do we seek it and why is it vital? (Zeph 2:2,3)
It's a beautiful title and a talk that we all can benefit from.
So if I'm the one giving the talk here's I would deliver it this way:
Friends, What is meekness, how do we seek it and why is it vital?
According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary - meekness - is enduring injury with patience and without resentment.
In other words - meekness is mildness of temper. It enables us to endure injury with patience and without irritation, resentment, vindictiveness.
As such it's an endearing character to posses. No doubt each one us will benefit from having it.
But how do we, imperfect humans seek meekness?
And most of all why is it vital to manifest such character?
To answer these questions please turn your Bible to Zephaniah 2:2, 3.
If you're there, here's what it says:
“. . .Before [the] statute gives birth to [anything], [before the] day has passed by just like chaff, before there comes upon YOU people the burning anger of Jehovah, before there comes upon YOU the day of Jehovah’s anger, 3 seek Jehovah, all YOU meek ones of the earth, who have practiced His own judicial decision. Seek righteousness, seek meekness. Probably YOU may be concealed in the day of Jehovah’s anger. . .” (Zephaniah 2:2, 3)
Did you noticed how we can seek meekness?
Please read with me again verse 3, the first part, it says:
"3 seek Jehovah, all YOU meek ones of the earth, who have practiced His own judicial decision."
Yes, to seek meekness means to seek our God Jehovah. That is the key and then it said "practiced His own judicial decision."
So meekness is also tied to doing things according to what Jehovah says.
But how do we do these? How do we seek meekness according to Jehovah?
Turn your Bible pls this time to John 17:3 and let us see what we need to do.
John 17:3 if you're there says:
".3This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.
Yes, by taking in knowledge of our God Jehovah and his son Jesus we learn how to be meek. We learn how to endure injury with patience and without resentment. And most of all we learn how to practiced His own judicial decision." That is the key to seeking meekness.
Now, why is it vital so seek it?
The last part of Zephaniah 2:3 tells us, "Probably YOU may be concealed in the day of Jehovah’s anger. . .”
That is, our being concealed in Jehovah's anger will depend on our remaining meek in Jehovah's eyes. Thus may we always seek meekness be counted as one who will inherit the earth.
That's all I have sister. Now it's up to you and my brother to time it to the allotted time - edit it , change it to suite his style. If it's too long further simplify it. Combine thoughts into on.
In the end - trust fully on Jehovah's holy spirit.
