Jehovah`s Witness/Jesus is Coming
I believe the JW's say; that Jesus came in 1914. Is that the same as "the second coming of Christ" you hear so much about? I'm a little confused. The reason I asked; the New Testament says: "of that day and hour no one knows." I know the Bible doesn't contradict itself so can you please explain it so that I can understand the different meanings?
I hope you're doing well
Thanks for asking.
And glad to hear that you are of the same mind as we are in regards to the year 1914 as the year our Lord Jesus Christ became King in God's Kingdom. Truly, it's awe-inspiring to know that God's Kingdom has been in operation since 1914. Imagine that 100 years from Oct 1 1914 to Oct 1 2014!!!
Soon God's will, will be done on earth as it is already DONE in heaven - Matt 6:10
Now in regards to the coming or as many call it "Second Coming" of the Lord Jesus Christ, our understanding is that it will happen DURING the Great Tribulation where the exact TIME of his ARRIVAL is not known.
Remember what he said in Matthew 24:29-25:46?
If you read those verses, you will see that Jesus was talking about his "coming" as Judge and Executioner DURING the Great Tribulation.
He says here:
"..."Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity." (Matthew 24:29-31)
“Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:42)
"On this account, you too prove yourselves ready, because the Son of man is coming at an hour that you do not think to be it." (Matthew 24:44)
"...When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit down on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will put the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left." (Matthew 25:31-33)
His coming is also the time when he gives his "belongings" to his Faithful Slave - the 144,000.
"Happy is that slave if his master on coming finds him doing so! 47 Truly I say to you, he will appoint him over all his belongings." (Matthew 24:46, 47)
In any case, if you want to learn more about it, go to our web site JW.org and download the July 15 2013 Watchtower. Read through it and you will learn a lot more about the "coming" of Christ. Also, if you're already studying ask your conductor to consider the magazine with you.
