Question
QUESTION: Have you been born again? Jesus told Nichodemus  that he needed to be born again in order to enter the Kingdom of God. Do JW"s believe in being born again?

I am still learning truth as is everyone else.

ANSWER: Hi Timothy,

The answer to your question is yes. Absolutely, we believe in "being born again". However our belief about being born again is quite different from nominal Christianity. Especially with those who call themselves "Born-Again Christians". Very different.

In a nutshell, along with the other beliefs of theirs, (whatever category they belong to) Born Again Christians / Baptist believe that ALL members are Born-Again Christians with a heavenly inheritance. Thus they believe they are already saved and are awaiting the day they call "Rapture". This is the event in which they will suddenly be raptured from the earth to be taken to heaven to be with the Lord". This will happen in the "end times". So unless you're a Born-Again, there's no salvation for you.

We Jehovah's Witnesses on the other hand although we also believe that those who are "born-again" have heavenly hope, they are but a few. In fact these ones are CHOSEN by God by virtue of his holy spirit being "poured" upon them. They are anointed by holy spirit. In fact their total number amounts to 144,000. They are "chosen" from among mankind to rule with Christ in Heaven for a 1000 years (Acts 10:44, 47, 1 Cor. 15:50; Luke 12:32; Rev. 14:1-3).

So contrary to what the Baptist or the "Born-Again Christians" believe, one doesn't need to be "born-again" in order to be saved or gain salvation. But one needs to be "born-again" (by being resurrected as a spirit) in order to be with God and Christ in heaven.

This is clearly explained by what Jesus said to Nicodemus.

Notice again the scripture you've provided:

"In response Jesus said to him: “Most truly I say to you, unless anyone is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” 4 Nic·o·de′mus said to him: “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter into the womb of his mother a second time and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered: “Most truly I say to you, unless anyone is born from water and spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. 6 What has been born from the flesh is flesh, and what has been born from the spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed because I told you: You people must be born again." (John 3:3-7)

From other translation, it goes this way:

Jesus answered, “I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God without being born again.”[a]4 “How can a grown man be born again?” Nicodemus asked. “He certainly cannot enter his mother's womb and be born a second time!” 5 “I am telling you the truth,” replied Jesus, “that no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 A person is born physically of human parents, but is born spiritually of the Spirit. 7 Do not be surprised because I tell you that you must all be born again.[b] (Jh 3:3-7 GNT)

Did you notice what the Lord said?

“I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God without being born again.”

NO ONE CAN SEE THE kingdom of God without being BORN-AGAIN!

Why?

Because "...flesh and blood cannot inherit God’s Kingdom, nor does corruption inherit incorruption.” (1 Corinthians 15:50)

"... And just as we have borne the image of the one made of dust, we will bear also the image of the heavenly one." (1 Corinthians 15:49)

"...For this which is corruptible must put on incorruption, and this which is mortal must put on immortality." (1 Corinthians 15:53)

Hence..."What has been born from the flesh is flesh, and what has been born from the spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6)

So he did not say to ALL that "no one can be saved without being born again" because this portion of life is a promise made to ONLY to Jesus brothers.

Notice:

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God; exercise faith also in me. 2 In the house of my Father are many dwelling places. Otherwise, I would have told you, for I am going my way to prepare a place for you. 3 Also, if I go my way and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you home to myself, so that where I am you also may be. 4 And where I am going, you know the way.”” (John 14:1-4)

But to all who will gain salvation, this is what he said:

"For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him." (John 3:16, 17)

To these the promise is...

"...Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:5)

"Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were, And they will not be there. 11 But the meek will possess the earth, And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." (Psalm 37:10, 11)

"...They will build houses and live in them, And they will plant vineyards and eat their fruitage. 22 They will not build for someone else to inhabit, Nor will they plant for others to eat. For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, And the work of their hands my chosen ones will enjoy to the full. 23 They will not toil for nothing, Nor will they bear children for distress, Because they are the offspring made up of those blessed by Jehovah, And their descendants with them.” (Isaiah 65:21-23)

May you be one of those who will inherit the earth when God's Kingdom comes (Matthew 6:9,10)!

QUESTION: Where does the Scripture say the Great Crowd as your Bible says or Great multitude go? Revelation 7 Chapter says "HEAVEN". Why is that so hard for you to accept?   The Great Crowd Goes WHERE?

Answer
Good question Timothy.

"The Great Crowd Goes WHERE?"

Let's take a look at Rev 7

"...After this I saw, and look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands. 10 And they keep shouting with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation we owe to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb."" (Revelation 7:9, 10)

Here's the KJB version:

"After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb." [Rev 7:9-10 KJV]

Notice the words used:

"standing before the throne and before the Lamb" - NWT

"stood before the throne, and before the Lamb" - KJV

What does the word "before" the throne / "before" the lamb imply?

Does it imply that they (the Great Crowd) were/are PHYSICALLY in HEAVEN as you've understood them to be?

(BTW, at one point in time we had the same understanding like you, that the Great Crowd were pictured being in Heaven. But upon closer examination, the answer became apparent).

No. The Great Crowd we'ren't in Heaven, for the original word used by John for "BEFORE" was "enopion" (Gk) which  literally means "in [the] sight [of]" and is used several times of humans on earth who are "before" or "in the sight of" Jehovah.

Here are just some Scriptures for comparison.

Notice carefully what's being stated:

1 Timothy 5:21

"I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus and the chosen angels to observe these instructions without any prejudice or partiality."

2 Timothy 2:14

"Keep reminding them of these things, instructing them before God not to fight about words, something of no usefulness at all because it harms those listening."

Romans 14:22

"The faith that you have, keep it to yourself before God. Happy is the man who does not judge himself by what he approves."

Galatians 1:20

"Now regarding the things I am writing you, I assure you before God that I am not lying."

Did you get the sense of it?

So, clearly IF the statement "before God", "before Christ" doesn't mean that one has to be LITERALLY and PHYSICALLY in front of God and Jesus in HEAVEN, thus, the same goes with the Great Crowd who are "standing before the throne and before the Lamb"

Going further, notice this event when Moses and Aaron gathered the Israelites "before Jehovah".

"...Then Moses said to Aaron: “Tell the entire assembly of the Israelites, ‘Come near before Jehovah, for he has heard your murmurings.’”” (Exodus 16:9).

For this to happen did the Israelites needed to be transported to heaven in order to stand before Jehovah on that occasion?

Of course not! We know this to be so because the following verses told us what happened next:

"...As soon as Aaron had spoken to the entire assembly of the Israelites, they turned and faced toward the wilderness, and look! Jehovah’s glory appeared in the cloud." (Exodus 16:10)

So rather than being in HEAVEN, the Israelites were right there in the wilderness "standing before Jehovah". They stood in Jehovah's view, and his attention was on them.

If you still doubt this clear explanation, here's another that will seal it:

"..."When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit down on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before, him, and he will separate people one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will put the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left." (Matthew 25:31-33)

"..."Then he will say to those on his left: 'Go away from me, you who have been cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41)

"...These will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life."" (Matthew 25:46)

Now, please focus on these words of Jesus:

"All the nations will be gathered before him..."

What does this imply to you? Are ALL the nations in HEAVEN to be judged by the Lord Jesus Christ?

Or does this imply that ALL the nations on earth are in Jesus' VIEW? That Jesus will judge the people of the nations to be either a "sheep" or a "goat" from his Kingdom in heaven?

If you insist in heaven rather than here on earth, then what are the "goats" doing in heaven? How did they make it there if only the righteous "born-again" goes to heaven? Can you explain that one? You can't unless you come up with some kind of scripture twisting and mental manipulation.

So as you can see, the correct understanding of Rev 7 is this - the Great Crowd who came out of the (earth's) great tribulation are now deemed righteous - "sheep" in front of God and Christ! And from their VIEW, they, the Great Crown are "standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands. 10 And they keep shouting with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation we owe to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.""

Let me add this:

As their reward the Great Crowd will INHERIT the Earth and...

Hope this helps. If not let me know.
