About Brenda Martin
Expertise
I have been one of Jehovah`s Witneses now for over 30 years, in those years I have brought up 4 children, teaching each of them the bible.Being one of Jehovah`s Witnesses has helped me cope with my Epilepsy and bring up a daughter with learning difficulties.I have conducted bible studies with people from nearly every denomination i.e. Muslim. Having used the bible all these years to answer peoples questions, I feel I am qualified to give any answer regarding Jehovah`s Witnesses and the bible.

Experience
My experience has been one of attending bible lectures 5 times a week, taking part in these lectures in front of an audience and being with thousands of J.W. at conventions where I have seen the bible at work in peoples lives. It is truly a miracle when you see thousands of people meeting together and not one policeman needed, and not even a piece of litter in sight. It is like another world.

Jehovah`s Witness - GOD's true name Part 1 response

Expert: Brenda Martin - 7/26/2006

Question
I'm pretty sure you don't want to discuss it, sure I understand. My wife to is a jehovah witness. Blinded, but she is still my wife. So you refuse to answer my question. Why can't you explain to me quotes from your own literature? why did WT say: Jehovah MIGHT NOT BE EXACTLY the way it was pronounced originally? Who better then a jehovah witness, an expert as yourself to clear this quote from your own literature.
R/Luis

Question -
You are quoting the American Standard Version .
but I am quoting you page 10 from the watchtower publication. Now why would WT write this on page 10: And the same is true with the name Jehovah. Even though the modern pronouciation Jehovah MIGHT NOT BE EXACTLY the way it was pronounced originally. Why would the Watchtower agree to that?

Question -
I'm going to be more specific: Why do you say [[This personal name, with its wealth of sacred associations, is now restored to the place in the sacred text to which it has an UNQUESTIONABLE CLAIM.”]]
While the watchtower publication: THE DEVINE NAME That Will Endure Forever, does not support your view about the name JEHOVAH to be UNQUESTIONABLE?

can you please answer that question.

Question -
Goodmorning welcome back Brenda from your vacation.
I wanted to ask you, why did you refuse to make avaliable to the public first part of this conversation? Is there a personal reason?

This is the part you refused to make avaliable copy paste:

Brenda,  You said, [[--Over the past several decades many fragments of ancient Greek versions of the Hebrew Scriptures have been discovered wherein the divine name was found written, usually in Hebrew letters"]].  I want you to think about this: Ancient Greek versions discovered with the Divine name usually written in Hebrew. You have the Greek scriptures that KEPT the Hebrew tetragram.  You said [[This is evident from the fact that He revealed His name to the very first two persons on earth. We know that Adam and Eve were familiar with God’s name because after Eve gave birth to Cain, according to the original Hebrew text, she said: “I have produced a man with the aid of Jehovah.”—Genesis 4:1.]] futhermore you also said [[ Mmm not true;as I said earlier; Adam and Eve knew God’s name, so let me explain— At Exodus 6:3 God told Moses that he was NOT KNOWN TO ABRAHAM BY THE NAME JEHOVAH, yet at Genesis 15:7, 8 God identifies himself to Abraham as Jehovah and Abraham calls him by that name. What is the explanation? ]] And I say to you, you are using the verses as a contradiction. Us men contradicts the verses and the scriptures does not: Again I tell you MOISES is the author of the book of GENESIS not Adam and EVE. It was the job of MOISES to add GOD's name to the scriptures including GENESIS. That is why the name is shown in books Gen-Deut, Job. The name was not revealed to Moises's Ancesters like the scriptures implies: Exo 6:3 ...MY NAME JEHOVAH I WAS NOT KNOWN TO THEM. But you at the other hand will come up with other versus to contradict. Versus coming from the same author/writter MOISES! you said: [[ The Hebrew Tetragrammaton, éäåä, which means “He Causes to Become.”]] I say to you: Do not confuse a description of his self being with the actual name. Exo3:9 "He Causes to Become" is a description of his atribute. Meaning he gives LIFE and he is LIFE within itself. No one has created him and he is the creator. It is his atribute "He Causes to Become". You said: [[Yes however they are the problem, you see it is because of them that we have lost the pronunciation, let me explain—]] And I say to you: Look around you, the truth is all around you, how many times did you hear this generation use God's name in vain? Cursing God's name, bringing down his glorious name below them? Our generation is not worthy to use GOD's true gracious name. And this is what was revealed to the earlier JEWS, So the pronounciation of his true name was lost till the time that he establishes his KINGDOM here on earth for the 1000yrs reign that his true name will then be revealed to the chosen and the great crowd who are worthy to call GOD by his name. HOLY HOLY HOLY You said [[This personal name, with its wealth of sacred associations, is now restored to the place in the sacred text to which it has an UNQUESTIONABLE CLAIM.”]] I say to you: UNQUESTIONABLE CLAIM? Watch Tower publication: THE DEVINE NAME That Will Endure Forever, pg.7 The truth is, nobody knows for sure how the name of GOD was originally pronounced... pg.8-9 God's name Yahweh, But no one can be sure, Perhaps they pronounced it that way, perhaps not. Nevertheless, many prefer the pronunciation Jehovah. Why? Because it has a currency and familiarity that Yahweh does not have. pg10 And the same is true with the name Jehovah. Even though the modern pronouciation Jehovah MIGHT NOT BE EXACTLY the way it was pronounced originally. I tell you again you call this UNQUESTIONABLE CLAIM? The governing body who you consider to be the mediator between GOD and men adopted a name because of the familiarity it had over yahweh. That is the only reason why!  continue to next--------> part 2

Answer -
ah now I know why I didnt understand your question, I did not choose to make anything "private" I just type my answers and send them to you.So I really dont know why it was not "public"

all the best

Answer -
The part you are referring to---"This personal name [Jehovah], with its wealth of sacred associations, is now restored to the place in the sacred text to which it has an unquestionable claim.”—AS preface, p. iv

As you can see, it is not a quote from any of our literature, it is taken from the AMERICAN STANDARD VERSION BIBLE.

I quote--"With the much heralded and widely celebrated release of the Revised Standard Version on September 30, 1952, the translation committee made known its decision to the world: the divine name had been denied its “unquestionable claim” etc.

"In its preface the American Standard Version explains why it uses God’s name Jehovah, and why for a long time that name was not used: “The American Revisers, after a careful consideration, were brought to the unanimous conviction that a Jewish superstition, which regarded the Divine Name as too sacred to be uttered, ought no longer to dominate in the English or any other version . . . This personal name, with its wealth of sacred associations, is now restored to the place in the sacred text to which it has an unquestionable claim.” (end quote)

question answered I trust.

Answer -
I have no desire or need to discuss what my literature says, I have complete faith and trust in the "governing body" and know they are the channel Jehovah is using.FULL STOP

I will however answer your bible question regarding the 144,000 asap.

Answer
"I'M PRETTY SURE YOU DON'T WANT TO DISCUSS IT, SURE I UNDERSTAND."

I would say you don’t “understand” at all, I don’t want to “discuss it” for any of the reasons you might imagine. Whatever the literature of JW’s says I believe; BECAUSE I have studied it and checked it out thouroughly. I have no need or desire to do so for someone who is only looking to find fault.

MY WIFE TO IS A JEHOVAH WITNESS. BLINDED, BUT SHE IS STILL MY WIFE.

What a shame for your poor wife, how difficult it must be for her to live with someone who thinks she is “blinded” not much respect going on there. I’m sure she prays every night that one day the veil you have on your eyes is lifted, and you may “see” the truth. Believe me you are the one who is “blinded”

WHY CAN'T YOU EXPLAIN TO ME QUOTES FROM YOUR OWN LITERATURE?

It is not a matter of “cant” I choose not to as I believe it is a waste of time where you are concerned.

WHY DID WT SAY: JEHOVAH MIGHT NOT BE EXACTLY THE WAY IT WAS PRONOUNCED ORIGINALLY?

Now that’s a difficult one, could it be because that is absolutley true, now I would see the sense if we were claiming that JEHOVAH  was definatly the pronunciaton, but correct me if im wrong, we are saying what every scholar says; “that the pronunciation was lost through time”  So that is why the WT says that, because it is true, now does that answer your question? Somehow I doubt it.
