AboutBrenda Martin Expertise I have been one of Jehovah`s Witneses now for over 30 years, in those years I have brought up 4 children, teaching each of them the bible.Being one of Jehovah`s Witnesses has helped me cope with my Epilepsy and bring up a daughter with learning difficulties.I have conducted bible studies with people from nearly every denomination i.e. Muslim. Having used the bible all these years to answer peoples questions, I feel I am qualified to give any answer regarding Jehovah`s Witnesses and the bible.
Experience My experience has been one of attending bible lectures 5 times a week, taking part in these lectures in front of an audience and being with thousands of J.W. at conventions where I have seen the bible at work in peoples lives. It is truly a miracle when you see thousands of people meeting together and not one policeman needed, and not even a piece of litter in sight. It is like another world.
Question -
Brenda,
I do not belong to any one relgion however, I have studied with Witness's in the past and believe a lot of the same. My problem is that my dad doesn't believe in God at all and I know it is "our" job to spread the good word and I have tried to do this with him and all he will tell me if I can tell him who made God or where God came from then he would be willing to listen. Do you have any advice on this?
Thanks,
Angie
Answer -
"WHO MADE GOD OR WHERE GOD CAME FROM?"
It has been said that there are two books that tell us about the existence of God—the “book” of creation, or nature around us, and the Bible. They have been the basis for belief for millions of people past and present. For example, a king of the 11th century B.C.E., impressed by what he observed in the starry heavens, exclaimed poetically: “The heavens are declaring the glory of God; and of the work of his hands the expanse is telling.” (Psalm 19:1)
In the 20th century, an astronaut, looking at the spectacular view of the earth from his spacecraft as it circled the moon, was moved to recite: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”—Genesis 1:1, KJ.
That age old objection can be likened to your dad coming in from work and you having the tea ready on the table, but he says “I’m not going to eat it until I see how it was made” the fact is, the proof of God’s existence is all around us, it is “inexcusable” so to say; I’m not going to believe there is a Creator unless I know where he came from is silly, because there are many ,many things around us that we do not understand, but that does not make them any less real does it?
A calculator for instance cannot work out a 9 digit sum, why? Because it is limited, the furthest it can go is an 8 digit sum, so does that mean a 9 digit sum doesn’t exist? Of course not, So likewise just because our human brain cannot comprehend; God always existing and not being created, doesn’t mean it cannot be true, it just means we are limited.
Why worry where God came from, we don’t have to see and understand everything to believe, do we, ask your dad if he understands the wind, or the tides, or the universe and how it works, he will realise there are many things he does not understand, yet accepts they exist and are real.
All the best

Brenda,
Thank you for responding and everything you said makes sence to me. My dad says that everything has something or someone behind it, and if the Bible tells us how to live and what to believe in then it would tell us how God became. He believes that all relgion is just made up 1,000's of years ago. And everyone who believes is just following what they have been told is the truth. Just like most kids believe when they are little their is a Santa. We are believing what our parents told us, and them what their parents told them. His strongest point in arguement is "why are babies raped or even worse" and I tell him that we all are born with sin and the person who has done such a thing is sinful and does not have the Lord with them. He will then say but if God is so powerful why does it have to happen to a baby who has not sinned. This may be something that I will never be able to get him to understand, but I feel that it is something I can not give up on. Again thanks for your advice.

Answer "WHY ARE BABIES RAPED OR EVEN WORSE" IF GOD IS SO POWERFUL WHY DOES IT HAVE TO HAPPEN TO A BABY WHO HAS NOT SINNED”
Most people do not understand why God permits wickedness and so blame him for all the bad things that take place. They do not realize that man’s inclination toward badness is not because of God’s will but because of the sin of Adam. (Rom. 5:12) They may be unaware of the existence of Satan the Devil and of his influence on world affairs, so they ascribe to God the vile things perpetrated by Satan. (1 John 5:19; Rev. 12:12) If they are to some extent aware of these things, they may feel that God is slow about taking action, because they do not see clearly the issue of universal sovereignty and do not grasp the fact that God’s patience down till this time affords them an undeserved opportunity for salvation. (Rom. 2:4; 2 Pet. 3:9) Also, they do not fully realize that God has a set time when he will destroy forever all who practice wickedness.—Rev. 22:10-12; 11:18; Hab. 2:3.
