Question Hi
The Bible is a mass of contradictions. It is also a reservoir of lies, spite, hatred, jealousy, racism and genocide- all sanctioned by God. It is also a story of hope, love and redemption. What and where is the truth and how can we possibly listen to anybody who believes that the world is only thousands of years old? Is it not time to reppraise The Bible as a collection of myths, folk-tales, stories, histories etc. Go to any library- do you necessarily trust the veracity of every book?

Answer Hi Steve!
Where to begin? First off, not all believers of the Bible are young-earthers – I am certainly one who believes in the age of the universe as being very old. It takes light a longer than 1000 years to travel across the universe.
However, regarding the Bible, I arrived at it from a different angle than most. I believe in scientific study of the Bible, and intelligence in creation. After realizing that what you see physically could not possible have created spontaneously (your body; DNA; sight; love; the delicate balance in the cosmos, etc.), I began to look around at world religions for the answer why. There are many reasons for my choice, but one of my favorite books on the subject I would be happy to send to you (if you really are interested in studying the subject.) It is a short book written by a former Atheist and is well done. It is more of a science book than a religious book, but it does cover things in the Bible. So if you are interested, email me your mailing address to michael@oflaherty.com. I promise no junk mail or anything else will be sent to you. No cost or obligation what-so-ever.
In regards to the Bible, there are more complete copies and fragments of both the OT and NT than say any of Shakespeare's works. The question always boils down to Jesus – is he a historic figure, and did he raise himself from the dead. Christianity hangs on that one event. If Jesus was not raised from the dead than Christianity is complete fiction.
