AboutBrenda Martin Expertise I have been one of Jehovah`s Witneses now for over 30 years, in those years I have brought up 4 children, teaching each of them the bible.Being one of Jehovah`s Witnesses has helped me cope with my Epilepsy and bring up a daughter with learning difficulties.I have conducted bible studies with people from nearly every denomination i.e. Muslim. Having used the bible all these years to answer peoples questions, I feel I am qualified to give any answer regarding Jehovah`s Witnesses and the bible.
Experience My experience has been one of attending bible lectures 5 times a week, taking part in these lectures in front of an audience and being with thousands of J.W. at conventions where I have seen the bible at work in peoples lives. It is truly a miracle when you see thousands of people meeting together and not one policeman needed, and not even a piece of litter in sight. It is like another world.
Question I had a pen pal relationship with a Jehovah Witness for 20 plus years. About 2 months ago, I received a letter from her daughter. The daughter indicated that my pen pal had passed away. The daughter indicated that my pen pal passed away Febr 5 but the funeral was not to be until March 10 & 11. No reason was given for the length of time between the passing and the funeral. The daughter's comment was "please pray for my MOther as we lay her to rest". Is such a lengthy interval between death and burial a traditional Jehovah Witness ritual? Also the daughter indicated the funeral would be March 10 & 11...a two day funeral or similar to what most Christians have...a visitation or prayer service the afternoon & evening before the funeral and then the funeral the next day? As far as I know, there were no relatives that would live such a significant distance that would require a 6 week delay. This question is not to be interpreted as a critisim but is simply myself seeking knowledge of other religions. My pen pal lived in Hawaii and may be this is another influencing factor. Thank you.
Answer 1.Is such a lengthy interval between death and burial a traditional Jehovah Witness ritual?
No we do not have any "rituals"
2.a two day funeral?
Strange, I have never heard of that before, our funerals (we had one this week) consist of meeting at the Kingdom Hall to which anyone can attend, a bible talk is given and then the body is taken either to the grave, or to the crematoriam ,whichever the person has chosen
3. My pen pal lived in Hawaii
I can only think that its a culture thing then, it certainly is not what happens in general at the funeral of Jehovah's Witnesses.
