Question
Why do "witnesses" pass the cup and not drink it when both Yeshua and Paul say to drink.  Paul addresses a wayward gentile Greek congregation in his letter to the Corinthians.  They are getting drunk and stuffing themselves with bread to the point that there is no bread left by the time some others arrive.  He simply tells them to examine themselves.  What for?  To make sure that they are eating and drinking worthily.  What is worthily?  Paul says that to do it unworthily is to do it focused on the stomach and getting drunk.  "Don't you have homes...?"  "eat at home..."  To do it worthily is to drink of this "cup of blessing" (according to chapter ten of the same letter) without recognizing the body and blood of Yeshua.  Without recognizing your passover sacrifice (since the letter was written in 57 AD during the 8 day passover zikor/memorial and Paul addresses passover elements throughout the letter which was not originally separated by chapter and verse--the entire letter has a them "cup of blessing", "leaven", "unleavened bread", "firstfruits", "Yeshua or passover/pesach lamb")  He was keeping passover and telling them how they should handle this element of Passover fulfillment.  A zikor is a memorial associated with a Jewish festival.  Yeshua says drink and eat in the gospels as a zikor/memorial associated with a feast day.  He says do it with this understanding going forward---his body his blood.  He also says that if you do not drink and eat--You have no life.  If you do drink and eat--you will have a place in the kingdom to come or the world to come--he does not mention heaven in the hebrew or greek.  Yet, witnesses are instructed to ignore Yeshua's teaching, ignore Paul's teaching, and that it is for a select group of People--although they see Paul instructing this wayward bunch in Corinth to eat and drink--and if they will not do it worthily--Paul says that he thinks it is better if they don't even meet.  Why does it automatically say "no" to posting on your message board.  Mind control

Answer
Hello Lorna,

Thank you for this question, and again I apologize for not answering you sooner.  I must make more of an effort to check this site to see if I have any questions to be answered in stead of waiting for the automatic e-mail that tells me I have a question.

AT this stage I do not fully understand what you are asking, so I am requesting some more details please

From what you have written I am assuming your references to . "Don't you have homes...?" "eat at home..." is from 1 Corinthians 11:22.  I am not really sure as to what you are saying above So,  I am making an assumption

I am assuming you are saying in Corinth, the congregation here were eating to excess at the "Passover Meal" .  So why do we not have such a meal (without the overindulgences) ..... Is this what you are inferring?

You make this statement......

"Yeshua says drink and eat in the gospels as a zikor/memorial associated with a feast day."

Yes we agree with you that it is a memorial day.  A memorial is something that generally done once a year.  Are you saying that Jesus instructed his followers to keep the Passover memorial?

You also make this statement.....

"Why does it automatically say "no" to posting on your message board. Mind control"

Are you referring to my web site?

So that I can fully answer you, can you please let me know if I have understood you correctly.

Expertise

I AM one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and I am always learning. I am NOT an expert in the full sense of the word but I can answer questions on the reliability of the NWT,, the so called mind control problems,,so called prophecies,,,,how being a JW affects the individual and relatives and general practices and history of Jehovah’s Witnesses. >>WARNING<< Please be aware that as at 31 December 2011 there are at least 4 people here who ARE NOT practicing JWs. By all means ask these ones questions. Depending on the question you will get an honest answer, but generally the answer you get will mislead you often because they do not give ALL the relevant details. The following men are not practising JWS ..Derrick Holland ..Ben Erdman..Robert Jones>..Ken the Apostate These ones will, at times, may appear to not have an agenda against JWs., and will at times give answers that are not correct in regard to JW teachings and practices. If you are after a answer from one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, please read some of the answers that the various experts have published before choosing someone. If you want to ask one of the NON JWs a question, that is fine, BUT if you want a balancing view after asking one of the NON JWs, ask a JW the same question.PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Some experts are NOT always the most courteous, and their answers may offend, so it IS IMPORTANT to chose an "expert" that YOU feel will best suit YOU . . . . .

Experience

I have been a publisher since 1964. When I first went on the internet I found a lot of negative information dealing with Jehovah’s Witnesses covering prophecy, mind control and what many said was a very bad translation of the Bible known as the NWT. It shook my faith. After may hours researching these topics I could see why some felt that way, but, I was also able to explain why there were these misleading views. I can now set matters straight for anyone that has negative information about Jehovah’s Witness to show them that such information is at best misleading and at worst dangerous lies.

Education/Credentials
I have been a student of the Bible for many years, am trying to teach myself Biblical Greek. Was a public tax accountant for many years untill SEP 2009 when I gave it up due to health problems.
