Jehovah`s Witness - blood transfusion

Expert: John Bergman - 11/17/2005

Question
John thanks for your replay,
And with all due respect, i feel it is my moral duty to tell you my opinion that I believe tht JW's have made a deadly error in their interpretaions of Acts 15:29

Can we not reasonable see bible quotes like these are warning us about drinking blood as the Pagans did in old testamet times.
And not blood transfusions which are medical procedures.
And are in no way a Pagan ritual.
they are two totally differnent things with absolutely no connection.
please rethink this position
For the sake of children
God bless

Question -
Dear sir,
If you had a child and they needed a blood transfusion to survive an accident, would you be in favor of a blood tranfusion for her?
thanks

Answer -
Dear Jeff:

In many ways, either though I don't have a child, this would be the hardest decision to make as a father when you see your child in pain.

First, I would like to say that we are not anti doctor or anti hospital.  We know that Luke was a physician as well as an apostle of Jesus Christ, so we know that doctors and nurses are there to help and to heal.

We would definetely ask the doctors if there were any other non blood ways to help our children in good health.  We know that there are blood stretchers thst will help keep the re and white blood cells in good order and to help more blood to be created in the body.

To tell you the truth, blood transfusins are not all together safe.  There have been many instances where these blood banks have had blood that was tainted with deadly diseases.

But if all else fails, then we put our trust in Jehovah God. He command us in
We believe that most people who die will be resurrected unto a peaceful new earth where death will be no more.  That's the hope we have in God and Jesus Christ.

If you like more information about this, please contact teh Jehovah's Witnesses website:  www.watchtower.org or you cna contact me again.

Peace and love.

Answer
Dear Jeff:

I understand what you're saying involving your feelings.  However with Acts 15:29 it shows "and from blood" as completely seperate from the other detestable things such as "things sacrifficed to idols" and "from fornication". It means that we should not take in or eat blood even if it was not associated with idol worship, such as that we can not fornicate even if it was not associated with idol worship as well.

In Genesis 9:3,4, after the flood of Noah, Jehovah God gave a new command involving the eating of flesh.  The last part says that only the blood or it soul must you not eat.

Even though this as well as other commands invovling blood was part of the Mosaic Law, which the death and sacrifice of Christ done away with, the abstination of blood was still very much a part of Christian belief as pointed out as well in Acts 21:25. It is also recognized that in pagan religions of that time, the drinking of blood was considered a normal as well as an important part of their worship.

Even though there is somewhat difference between the pagan rits of blood and transfusions, you must consider this:  Intravenous routes are used when people are needed to be fed or when there is no way for the patient to eat, so with blood transfusions being mostly administered via IV, it is considered the eating of blood according to the Bible.

THis is very important to all of us to follow God's commandments and to be pleasing to him.

I hope this answers your question.  I understand you not agreeing with us on this issue.  Once again, if you want more information, please feel free to contact any Jehovah's Witnesses around your area or go into the Witnesses' web site: www.watchtower.org.

Peace and Love
John
