About Brenda Martin
Expertise
I have been one of Jehovah`s Witneses now for over 30 years, in those years I have brought up 4 children, teaching each of them the bible.Being one of Jehovah`s Witnesses has helped me cope with my Epilepsy and bring up a daughter with learning difficulties.I have conducted bible studies with people from nearly every denomination i.e. Muslim. Having used the bible all these years to answer peoples questions, I feel I am qualified to give any answer regarding Jehovah`s Witnesses and the bible.

Experience
My experience has been one of attending bible lectures 5 times a week, taking part in these lectures in front of an audience and being with thousands of J.W. at conventions where I have seen the bible at work in peoples lives. It is truly a miracle when you see thousands of people meeting together and not one policeman needed, and not even a piece of litter in sight. It is like another world.

Jehovah`s Witness - the finished mystery

Expert: Brenda Martin - 4/17/2006

Question
hi i emailed you just recently but i gave the wrong email, sorry ill just ask the same question.

Have you ever heard of the book title:
"The Finished Mystery" it was written by rutherford about C.T. Russell the adopted father and architect of the watchtower organzation and he created many of the doctrines in which you follow today as a jehovah's witness.
In this book he made several prophecies that never came true. In the bible the lord (jehovah) says, "he who speaks in my name, and whose words do not come true is not the true word of god, and should not be listen too."
Knowing this, the watchtower organzation and jehovah's witness are false prophects and are not the true word of god and should not be listened too.
Also Jesus said to peter, "you are my rock, and upon my rock you shall build my church." Which today is the catholic church, and that is in history books as a fact. Jesus did not start the watchtower organzation. please respond. i thank you for your times

Answer
Hi Brandon, you asked--"HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THE BOOK TITLE: "THE FINISHED MYSTERY"

Yes, all Jehovah's Witnesses have.

"C.T. RUSSELL CREATED MANY OF THE DOCTRINES IN WHICH YOU FOLLOW TODAY AS A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS."

Jehovah's Witnesses have not set out to introduce new doctrines, a new way of worship, a new religion. Instead, their modern-day history reflects conscientious effort to teach what is found in the Bible, the inspired Word of God. They point to it as the basis for all their beliefs and their way of life. Instead of developing beliefs that reflect the permissive trends of the modern world, they have sought to conform ever more closely to the Biblical teachings and practices of first-century Christianity.

In the early 1870's, Charles Taze Russell and his associates undertook an earnest study of the Bible. It became obvious to them that Christendom had strayed far from the teachings and practices of early Christianity. Brother Russell did not claim to be the first to discern this, and he freely acknowledged his indebtedness to others for the assistance they rendered during his early years of study of the Scriptures.

Jesus instructed his disciples to share with others the light of divine truth that they had received from him. “You are the light of the world,” he said. “Let your light shine before men.” (Matt. 5:14-16; Acts 13:47) Charles Taze Russell and his associates recognized that they had an obligation to do that.

Did they believe that they had all the answers, the full light of truth? To that question Brother Russell pointedly answered: “Certainly not; nor will we have until the ‘perfect day.'” (Prov. 4:18, KJ) Frequently they referred to their Scriptural beliefs as “present truth”—not with any idea that truth itself changes but rather with the thought that their understanding of it was progressive.

"HE MADE SEVERAL PROPHECIES THAT NEVER CAME TRUE."

I have not read the book so cannot comment, but I will say this; Jehovah's Witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets. They have made mistakes. Like the apostles of Jesus Christ, they have at times had some wrong expectations.—Luke 19:11; Acts 1:6.

Matters on which corrections of viewpoint have been needed have been relatively minor when compared with the vital Bible truths that they have discerned and publicized. Among these are the following: Jehovah is the only true God. Jesus Christ is not part of a Trinitarian godhead but is the only-begotten Son of God. Redemption from sin is possible only through faith in Christ's ransom sacrifice. The holy spirit is not a person but is Jehovah's active force, and its fruitage must be evident in the lives of true worshipers. The human soul is not immortal, as the ancient pagans claimed; it dies, and the hope for future life is in the resurrection. God's permission of wickedness has been because of the issue of universal sovereignty. God's Kingdom is the only hope for mankind. Since 1914 we have been living in the last days of the global wicked system of things. Only 144,000 faithful Christians will be kings and priests with Christ in heaven, whereas the rest of obedient mankind will receive eternal life on a paradise earth.

Another factor to consider regarding the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses is this: Have these truly uplifted people morally? Are those who adhere to these teachings outstanding in their communities because of their honesty? Is their family life beneficially influenced by applying these teachings? Jesus said that his disciples would be readily identified because of having love among themselves. (John 13:35) Is this quality outstanding among Jehovah's Witnesses? We let the facts speak for themselves.

"JEHOVAH'S WITNESS ARE FALSE PROPHETS"

1.True prophets make known their faith in Jesus

2.True prophets speak in the name of God

3.The pronouncements of a true prophet promote true worship and are in harmony with God's revealed will

4.True prophets and the false can be recognized by the fruitage manifest in their lives and the lives of those who follow them

God knows well all the dark pages of the history of religion. Soon enough, he will call the guilty ones to account. (Revelation 18:4-8) In the meantime, is it possible to find a form of worship untainted by the bloodguilt, the murderous intolerance, and the other crimes that Christendom's churches are apologizing for? Yes.

How can we do that? By applying the rule stated by Jesus Christ: “By their fruits you will recognize them.” The record of history, which some religions would like to be forgotten, helps us to identify not only those whom Jesus called “false prophets” but also those who have produced “fine fruit.” (Matthew 7:15-20) Who are these? We invite you to find out for yourself by examining the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. See who today is really trying to follow God's Word rather than seeking to preserve a position of influence in the world.—Acts 17:11.

"JESUS SAID TO PETER, "YOU ARE MY ROCK, AND UPON MY ROCK YOU SHALL BUILD MY CHURCH." WHICH TODAY IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH,"

Is it? let's see—

1.--Was Peter the “rock” on which the church was built?

Matt. 16:18, JB: “I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it.” (Notice in the context [vss. 13, 20] that the discussion centers on the identity of Jesus.)

2.---Whom did the apostles Peter and Paul understand to be the “rock,” the “cornerstone

Acts 4:8-11, JB: “Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, addressed them, ‘Rulers of the people, and elders! . . . it was by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the one you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this name and by no other that this man is able to stand up perfectly healthy, here in your presence, today. This is the stone rejected by you the builders, but which has proved to be the keystone [“cornerstone,” NAB].'”

1 Pet. 2:4-8, JB: “Set yourselves close to him [the Lord Jesus Christ] so that you too . . . may be living stones making a spiritual house. As scripture says: See how I lay in Zion a precious cornerstone that I have chosen and the man who rests his trust on it will not be disappointed. That means that for you who are believers, it is precious; but for unbelievers, the stone rejected by the builders has proved to be the keystone, a stone to stumble over, a rock to bring men down.”

Eph. 2:20, JB: “You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone.”

3.-- What was the belief of Augustine (who was viewed as a saint by the Catholic Church)?

“In this same period of my priesthood, I also wrote a book against a letter of Donatus . . . In a passage in this book, I said about the Apostle Peter: ‘On him as on a rock the Church was built.' . . . But I know that very frequently at a later time, I so explained what the Lord said: ‘Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church,' that it be understood as built upon Him whom Peter confessed saying: ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God,' and so Peter, called after this rock, represented the person of the Church which is built upon this rock, and has received ‘the keys of the kingdom of heaven.' For, ‘Thou art Peter' and not ‘Thou art the rock' was said to him. But ‘the rock was Christ,' in confessing whom as also the whole Church confesses, Simon was called Peter.”—The Fathers of the Church—Saint Augustine, the Retractations (Washington, D.C.; 1968), translated by Mary I. Bogan, Book I, p. 90.

JESUS DID NOT START THE WATCHTOWER ORGANIZATION.

If you care to do a little research, you will find that the Christian congregation Jesus established in the first century and Jehovah's Witnesses today, match in their beliefs and actions in every detail.

The Catholic religion on the other hand bears no resemblance to the Christian congregation Jesus established.

JW's do exactly what Jesus tells them to do; “preach the good news of the kingdom from house to house” Matthew 24;14) I don't see any other religion obeying that command ,do you?

All the best
