Question
QUESTION: I recieved this piece about 16 years ago as a gift. Would you know any thing about it?
IMAGE: Arabic Jewelry

ANSWER: HI DEBRA,

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL HAND MADE PIECE FROM THE MIDDLE EAST BUT UNFORTUNATELY I CAN'T SEE IT ANY BETTER. IF I HAD IT IN MY HANDS I COULD TELL A HUNDRED TIMES MORE. TRY SHOWING IT TO A LOCAL JEWELER TO GET MORE INFO ON IT.

THANKS
PETER

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Peter,

Thank you for responding so quickly. A couple of things I remembered... It weighs 4.2 Ounces - Has Lapis, Coral, and some other type of bead (hand strung). What type of gold do you think this is? Peter, I know you cannot appraise this piece and I would not ask however could you give me a ball park value based on other pieces like this. (I cannot find anything).Maybe you could use words like "If this piece is 18kt" and "if it is real coral" and "if its hand made". If you can't - I  understand.
What type of questions should I ask a local Jeweler? Weight? Bead Size? In such a small city I doubt they would know very much about it. I sending a closer pic.
Thank you again so much. I appreciate any help.
Deb

Answer
HI DEBRA,

I THOUGHT I ANSWERED THIS QUESTION BEFORE MUST HAVE LOST IT. THIS PIECE IS VERY INTERESTING AND COULD BE WORTH A LOT OF MONEY OR NOT.
WITHOUT ME BEING ABLE TO INSPECT IT IS HARD TO SAY ANYTHING POSITIVELY. IF IT IS REAL 18-24K GOLD AND WEIGHS AS MUCH AS IT DOES IT COULD BE WORTH $2000 IN JUST GOLD WEIGHT. BUT I DON'T KNOW. YOU SHOULD HAVE A GOOD JEWELER FROM EUROPE OR THE MIDDLE EAST GIVE YOU AN OPINION. GOOD LUCK.

PETER
