Question hi i want to start a little side business and since i like jewel i have decided to sell used one.i know real jewelers cannot sale used jewel or dont like to do so but for myself i love it and i think that some metal and stone isnt getting ugly because somebodyels have worn it before me. the probleme is with diamond, how do i know the value of a diamond ,i have started to learn clarity and color and i think im doing fine but as an exemple i have bought a tennis bracelet with 45 2 point diamond ,but the diamond are small ,whitish, and not cut even... it have a value of 700 $ ,i was thinking that only vvs or si could have a nice value even if theyr not perfect but those are simply ugly and still worth a hell of money.how do diamond worth a by carat? is theyr an internationnal guide book for diamond value?plz give me some explanation other than just the usual bigger, clearer, color less mean more money, how do i put a real price on a diamond???
and an other question if your are ok with it.what do it nead to check on used jewel to see if they are very used or just little used condition ,i dont wanna buy a ring or a chain and give refund all the time because those jewel are falling appart?
from a guy who hope someday have his own business
tank you
Eric
Answer HI ERIC,
IF YOU INTEND TO DO THIS BUSINESS YOU MUST LEARN ALOT MORE. DIAMONDS RANGE IN PRICE FROM $20/CT TO $50,000/CT+. YOU SHOULD TAKE A COURSE FROM G.I.A ABOUT DIAMONDS AND COLORED STONES. ONCE YOU CAN GRADE A DIAMOND (4 'C'S) THEN YOU CAN DETERMINE ITS VALUE. YOU CAN CONTACT RAPPAPORT DIAMONDS IN NYC THAT PUTS OUT A PRICE SHEET WITH THE CURRENT PRICES, OR GEM WORLD PRICING GUIDE OR MANY OTHERS THAT DO THIS SERVICE. TO IDENTIFY AND 'CHECK' USED GEMS ALL YOU SHOULD NEED IS A JEWELERS LOUPE. THE MAGNIFYING GLASS USED BY JEWELERS. IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY TO GET GOOD AT BUYING AND SELLING GEMS AND JEWELRY AND REAL JEWELRS SELL USED GEMS AND JEWELRY ALL THE TIME. COMPETITION IS VERY STIFF IN THE MARKET BE, CAREFUL AND GO SLOWLY. GOOD LUCK
PETER
