AboutRod Keady Expertise all info pertaining to australian opals and opal fields is ok.
online valuations is difficult but not entirely impossible.
Photographs of stones should clearly show weight in carats and scale in mm. naturally photographs of opals are the hardest thing to take as
a slight shift in direction displays a new colour or plane

Question I have a 32CT #1 to 2 lightning ridge black flagstone. It will cut down to around 25 CTS. Brightness level 3.5 +. It is red, gold green and violet. I know the trade value but I need a new boat hopefuly a Choy Le, so am interested in top dollar. Any ideas on the Japanisse market? This is a true flagstone harueguin, not the BS you see on the net. I also just cut another strange one out of the same lot of rough. It is #1 black with electric blue lattice patteren coming out of a black eye. Around the stone is the strangest color of gold I've ever seen. I can't find anyone who's seen such a stone. I have some poor quality photos of the first stone mentioned.Of course a % would be paid to whoever helps to finilise a sale.
Thank You,
dfoxwor@aol.com p.s. the stone measures 29 x26x8mm
Answer Hi David,
Please send me a picture of this piece and some details of what you are asking .Big stones were very hard to sell 10 yrs ago . Now they are even harder to sell ...the market for buyers of this type are very limited, however, never say die ! Get me a shot and details and we will see what we can do .
Harlequin stones are indeed rare . Ive been in the business all my life and have only ever seen 2 stones that I could trully call Harlequin Opals.
lets have a look .
