Question Dr. Ari,
I wondered if you could recommend a suitable type of metal-cutting scissors or light tin snips. I want to cut aluminium etc. drinks cans, and have sufficient flexibility to cut shapes or straight lines. Is there a suitable bonding agent to secure the pieces onto a framework, either wood or metal?
Kind regards
Stu, Midlands, UK
Answer Hello Stu,
I would advise some Joyce Chen kitchen scissors- many seem to like them and they outlast the standard economy French metal snips available from every vendor. Cookson's has some pricey shears but aluminum requires no pricey tools..If you get aviator type snips go with straight ones, but the Joyce Chen brand- and I'm not one for Brand names for the most part, seem ideal for your application in particular.
As for a frame -or rather bonding Al to a frame, or backing, etc, there is a good epoxy in a silver tube that needs no mixing and has a 7000 on it, I can't for the life of me remember the name of the manufacturer but it is in the Cookson's UK catalogue- and most hardware stores as well. Also "Barge cement" will work. It's waterproof and will stick anything to anything..
hope that does it for you!
best regards,Ari
