Jewelry Making - sterling silver forks want to make bracelets

Expert: orlando cajamarca - 7/2/2009

Question
I have some sterling silver forks and would like to know how to melt them down or how I can make bracelets for myself.

Answer
Dear Claudette Petties,
I assume you want to make a solid plate like bracelet, if so then you need the following,

To start you will need a melting dish or crucible, a torch, a wire ingot mold and a rolling mill.
1- Melt all or part of the forks on the melting dish or crucible.
2- Pour the silver slowly and carefully in the wire ingot mold
3- Once it cools down roll it to the thickness and width you want.
4- Measure the size of your wrist and cut the plate to that size.
5- Round the ends a little bit.
6- Clean the plate on all sides with 3 different sanding paper grits,
start with 320 then use 400 grit and finally use 600 grit.
7- While the plate is still straight pre-polish one side.
8- Bend the plate to round or semi-oval making sure the pre-polished
side is inside or touches the skin.
9- Final polish it or put a finish on the surface.
DONE!
