Chris, no where did I see in the original question any mention about using old gold, or customers old gold.  Also there are no good cracks in gold, all are caused by some negative process while making the ring.  Here are some examples, the gold that was used for casting was contaminated with something, it was all old preuse/precast gold with no new gold, it was cast to hot which can happen particularly with rose gold, the reason being the high copper content used for rose gold especially 18kt rose, raises the casting temperature.  I could go on, but it is made improperly and probably will cause you further problem. Sorry  John

Traveled with and manufactured the souvenirs and miscellaneous replicas from the King Tut Exhibit when it visited the US.
