Job Hunting Tips - Interview

Question
Im going on my first interview. What can i expect?

Answer
Resh,

In most cases, you will first meet with the Human Resources representative for the company & fill out an application. If you have a resume, it is at this time that you provide it. Once that is done, the HR rep will spend some time with you before you are interviewed by the hiring manager. The hiring manager will ask you about your background and why you would be the right person to fill their open position. Depending on the position you wish to fill, you may be requested to take a test in order for the company to rate your abilities. The hiring manager should spend time discussing the duties of the position as well as its importance to the organization. You may be asked to interview with those who would be your peers if you were fortunate enough to be offered the position. An offer of employment may or may not be immediately made. Most offers are made a few days after the interview takes place. Usually the offer is made verbally followed up by a written copy which will note the position title & the compensation being offered.  At that point in time, you either accept or reject the offer or request additional time to make a decision.

Resh, since this is your first interview I think that it is also important for you to know what the company will expect. They will expect you to arrive on time for your interview. In the event that may you be delayed, you must call the company & alert them. To avoid this from even being a possibility, provide yourself plenty of time to arrive as scheduled. Another idea is to make a dry run to the company to make sure you know how to get there. The company will expect you to dress in a professional manner & to be well groomed. Be prepared by bringing a pen & extra copies of your resume as well as any references you plan to provide. Speak clearly & confidently. Most importantly of all be truthful in all your answers. You have only one chance at making a good first impression.

Resh, I wish you the best of luck in your interview. Please let me know if this information has helped or if I can do anything else to assist you.

Regards,
Andy
