About Andy Expertise I can help prepare candidates for job interviews; assist in discussing problems with your supervisors or peers; help in creating a resume that gets results; answer general work related questions.
Experience I have been in a management leadership role for the past 30 years. I have extensive knowledge re: the interview process, problem solving, team building, communcation with executive management, company mergers, downsizing, outsourcing of jobs, project management, disaster recovery, office politics, management consulting, business ethics, career changes, job relocation to another part of the country & becoming an agent for change within a corporation.
To tell you the truth I just recently graduated with a B.S in Psychology and as
you see from my resume, my first job out of school was in social services at a
non profit organization. However, I have seen that this is not a career I would
like to pursue further. Because of my lack of experience I am unsure of what
career path I do want to pursue, however I just saw a job posted with the City
that I am interested in. It is for a recreation coordinator. You see I really
don't know how to go about choosing a career, but through trial and error. Is
this the wrong method? Even so, I would like to create a resume tailored
towards that type of position. How would I go about making an
accomplishment resume as well as help with a cover memo? Any further
assistance would be greatly appreciated.

-----Answer-----
Hi Michael,
You mention wanting to change careers rather than changing jobs. What
careers are you considering? I ask because it would be important to tailor
your resume to that type of position.
Your current resume is “responsibility” oriented & that is fine. However, it
reads more like a job description rather than a resume. I would suggest more
of an “accomplishment” oriented resume so you can show prospective
employers the positive impact you’ve made in your various positions.
Another suggestion would be to create a cover memo that briefly explains
why you’ve decided to make the career change. It’s best to bring this up
initially so an employer isn’t wondering why. Changing careers has become
more common in the workplace & employers are more understanding &
acceptable of the change.
If you agree, I’m willing to work with you to make this happen. Please let me
know.
Regards,
Andy
Answer Sorry Michael; I lost track of your original response. Please take a look at the cover memo below as well as a resume example I forwarded to you in an earlier message. Sorry for the delay in responding; I’m just catching up after the holidays. When time permits, I would appreciate you filling out the allexperts.com questionnaire.
Regards,
Andy

Dear XXXX (It would be great if you knew who the hiring manager was so you could address it directly to them)
I recently saw your open position for a Recreation Coordinator & have attached a copy of my resume for your review. I am very interested in this position.
Most recently I have been working with people who have substance abuse problems & I have received excellent performance reviews. However, I’ve decided I no longer what to pursue a career in this field.
The skills I’ve honed in my current position are easily interchangeable as I enjoy working with young adults as well as children. I am a compassionate dependable person & have exhibited those qualities in my current position as well as a volunteer for St. Mary’s Medical Center.
I believe I have the skills & experience to fill your open position & would appreciate the opportunity to further discuss this position & my skills at your earliest convenience.
