Question
do i have to let employers know about my past felony record

Answer
Hi Daniel,

Yes you do. Lying on an application is an immediate reason for termination. So how do you explain it?

You come clean & explain that you were young & that is in your past. You have stayed out of trouble since that period in your life & you're looking for an opportunity to become a productive member of society again.

Now the above sounds fine buy I would be disingenuous if I were to let you believe this will be an easy hurdle to overcome. I think it's also important to apply for positions that have nothing to do with your earlier infraction. For example, if you stole money from an employer, I would not apply for a position that involved you handling any money.

Daniel, here's something for you to consider. While looking for your job, perform some volunteer work. This will put you in touch with those that may have connections & know of companies willing to give a person a 2nd chance. It also shows potential employers that you are doing something good for the community & that you deserve a 2nd chance.

I hope you find this advice helpful & please let me know if I can further assist. I wish you all the best & whatever you do Daniel, do not give up. There's someone out there who will understand & be willing to give you a shot. When time permits, please fill out the allexperts.com questionnaire. Best of luck to you Daniel!

Regards,
Andy
