Question I recently went on an interview for a teaching position. I felt I did very well. I also am in the process of buying a house. The house I found is sort of far from this job and the people need an answer as if I am going to purchase. My problem is I don't know if I got the job. I will take the job over the home because I really want it. Is it rude if I called the school and told them my situation??? The realtor needs an anwser ASAP, but the school told me they would contact me within 2 weeks. I just interviewed on Friday, Help!!!!
Answer Hi Melissa,
OK, here's an idea. It's always good to follow-up with a potential employer once you're interviewed for a position. Most candidates send a letter of thanks for the time spent with you but in your situation, it sounds like time is of the essence.
I would recommend picking up the phone & making that "thank you note" more personal by speaking directly with someone who interviewed you last Friday. Start off by thanking them for sharing time with you & reiterate your interest in joining their team & working with the school. After those pleasantries have been exchanged, be honest & tell them of your dilemma. Briefly explain that you are considering buying a new home & you must give the realtor an answer soon. Then ask the tough question....."Am I still being considered for the position?" Hopefully the answer will be an affirmative but you must also prepare yourself for being told that another candidate was selected.
The school may very well say no decision has been reached as of yet but perhaps you can convince them to tell you if you are still in the running based on your situation. I'm sure they understand your predicament & they will provide you an honest response.
There's something else I should add. Long commutes to & from work will eventually wear you down. Melissa, unless you have a strong reason to purchase this home I would rethink your decision. Spending an hour or more commuting one way just makes your normal 8 hour day into 10 hours plus.
Melissa, I hope I've been able to help give you some food for thought & a possible idea to consider. I wish you all he best in your job/home search & please let me know if I can assist you further. When time permits, I would appreciate you filling out the allexperts.com questionnaire. Best of luck to you Melissa!
